You can only change a handle if the new one is similar to the old one and isn't already taken (even if you happen to own the other account with that specific name).

Hey, sorry to jump into this thread, but if your professors already know who you are on the forums and they're reading your posts, there’s a huge chance they’ll spot this one too, and then they'll know your new nickname immediately. Especially if you keep using the same avatar, signature, and writing style on the same threads. It won't just be the teachers who catch on; everyone else will see it's you too.

If you really want to go completely off the grid, your best bet is to just start a brand new account and keep it on the down-low. Don't tell anyone about it. Just lay low for a bit. 🙂 I totally get how hard it is to walk away from all your old posts and your established identity, but sometimes it's honestly the smartest move. You'll start posting fresh, build up some new history, and eventually, you'll actually like the new persona more anyway. 🙂

The only changes we can actually make here aren't going to be drastic enough to hide the connection to your current name.

The new handle will share the first three letters of my old one, but honestly, since the professors are active on this thread, I can't risk them figuring out it's me. By now, I've branched out to other threads anyway, and like I said, the old posts are gone. I hope you get where I'm coming from, even if I understand your point. 🙂

I'm sorry, but the rules apply to everyone on Reddit equally. The whole reason we have these policies regarding name changes is to ensure a user stays identifiable after the switch. You should have thought about the consequences before posting; now, you have to own what you wrote and take responsibility for it.
