There isn't really a set deadline for when the username change actually happens. It could be done in five minutes, or honestly, it might take five whole weeks. I guess it all just comes down to how slammed the admin is with other stuff. 🙂

And it’s not just about the workload, either—it also depends on the server status and a few other technical quirks behind the scenes.
