I'm trying to figure out how to quote a single post in multiple separate parts...

Basically, someone drops this massive wall of text, and I want to quote specific snippets one by one to reply to them—but I need the original author's name to stay visible at the top of each section.

I see plenty of people doing it quite seamlessly, yet I can't for the life of me work out the trick. 😢

I just do the whole thing manually—I’ll open up whatever post I need to quote in a bunch of different tabs and then just start carving out the pieces myself.🤷🙈

Tell me about it! Everyone else seems to have it figured out—usernames, nested posts, everything. Meanwhile, I'm sitting here like a total amateur.

Keith Rodriguez27 said:That’s because they stay trapped in that giant quote box since you forget to delete the original big quote you get when you first hit the quote icon at the bottom of the post. You gotta wipe that first quote out before you start adding your own commentary. But if you do that, you lose the person's name and the link back to their original post. So, here's the move: do what I always do—just grab that
tag from the very end of the post and paste it right after the specific section you actually want to reply to, then use the "highlight and quote" method for the rest of your stuff.
I don't need that. I already know.
hit the button on the final post you want. It will automatically wrap all those posts in quote tags, allowing you to manually strip out unnecessary text, bold important parts, or insert your own commentary between quotes.

We'll figure it out as we go.
That stays stuck inside the massive block because after you highlight and quote specific sections, you forget to delete the initial giant quote block generated when you first clicked the quote icon at the bottom of the post.

I've used other methods...
So delete that first quote before you start adding your comments. Otherwise, you won't see the username you're quoting or the link to their original post. What I always do is just cut the end off the post.

...but sometimes
and paste it onto the end of the first section of the post you're commenting on, then apply the "highlight and quote" method to the rest.

...this works well too. It runs like a dream!😁 It's smooth as silk!

That stays stuck inside the massive blockquote.

Let me try some practice myself
because once you highlight and quote specific sections, you tend to forget to delete that giant container box you get when you hit the quote button at the bottom of a post.

And a little more practice
well, first you have to wipe out that initial quote before you actually start your own commentary. But if you do that, you lose the username you were quoting—and the link back to their original post, too.

One more attempt
so you can just do what I always do: cut the end off...

...of the post and paste it onto the end of the first section you want to address, then apply that "highlight then quote" method to everything else. Practice makes perfect 👍

I'm trying to figure out how to quote a single post in multiple separate parts...

It works like this:
Basically, someone drops a massive wall of text, and I want to quote it section by section—responding to each part individually—while ensuring the original author's name stays visible at the top of every snippet.

Heh.

I see plenty of people doing this, yet I can't wrap my head around the mechanics. 😢

I finally managed to pull it off myself. 👍

Where exactly am I missing the mark? If you could provide some more detailed guidance, I’d appreciate it.

And why exactly is that the case?

My process is a bit more convoluted than most—I tend to quote the entire block, strip away the parts that don't serve my point, provide my response, and then repeat the cycle by pasting the full quote again only to prune it once more.
It’s stalling, and we’re nearly at the finish line...

Here is how I’m approaching this (I’ll provide as much detail as possible), From the very beginning....):
To quote a post, you simply hit the Quote button to trigger the quoted block; then, highlight the specific section of text you intend to address and click the icon—that little speech bubble symbol—to finalize your comment. Wrap Quote the designated portion of the text should be enclosed within quote tags at both the beginning and the end Wrap QuoteI will append my commentary following that Wrap Quote at the end; I’ll highlight the second section once more; add the icon again; and then follow up with another comment right after the quote.

It seems my formatting has gone completely sideways; everything—from my own commentary down to those smaller nested quotes—is getting swallowed up by one massive, oversized quote block at the end of the post. It makes sense, I suppose, given that my own remarks are nested within the primary quote block... wouldn't you agree?
I feel as though I am missing a crucial step in my process, or perhaps there is a fundamental flaw in my approach that remains stubbornly out of reach, yet despite my efforts, the error eludes everyone's perception.🤷
Everyone keeps telling me the same thing: highlight the text, hit the icon, leave a comment. So, I follow the instructions to the letter, but when you look at the actual results... well, the outcome speaks for itself.
Something isn't quite clicking, so I would appreciate it if someone with a bit of patience could take a look at my task list and help me pinpoint exactly where my logic is faltering.🙂

[QUOTE="cosmicskipper39, post: 382206, member: 654"]You can even do it "manually" if you want.
AltGr + F = [
AltGr + G = ]
Just type this at the start:
[quote.] (leave out the period)
Then wrap it up with this at the end:
[/quote.](no period here either)
blah blah

Zachary Sanchez2 said:

Once you've tagged them all, just click the regular Quote button on that final post. Everything should automatically wrap itself in those quote tags, giving you the freedom to clean up any fluff, bold the parts that actually matter, or slide your own commentary in between the blocks of text. It's pretty straightforward, really.
