So, about 8 and a half years ago, I tore my right quad during a soccer match... and even after all this time, I still get this exact same—and honestly, super annoying—pain flare-up right in that same spot.
Sometimes I won't play soccer for months at a time for whatever reason... but every single time I do get back out there, I make sure to spend a solid half hour warming up and stretching (I played soccer and basketball for years, so trust me, I know the drill... I'm 37, after all). But without fail, the day after the game, that same pain kicks in. Then I’m stuck having to massage and stretch my quad multiple times a day just to get through it, and it usually takes about 4 or 5 days before things feel okay again.🤷
Back when the actual tear happened, I did about 15 to 20 days of physical therapy at a clinic in Chicago and everything supposedly went fine... but man, I really feel like something is still fundamentally messed up with that quad.🤷
Anyone else here dealt with something similar?😕

Not a single soul 😕
Should I have probably dropped this question somewhere else? Or is this the right spot for this kind of stuff?

I’ve been there, believe me.

It was the same story with rugby; I had this nagging tear at the top of my right quad😁 that haunted me for two years straight. Between failing to rehab it properly and nobody at the club actually giving a damn—either they didn't know how to help or just didn't care—I was stuck. Eventually, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I've been managing it myself for a year now without major issues, though if I jump into something without warming up, it still gets a bit tight before settling down.

In my opinion, the issue is staying inactive for too long and then overdoing it when you don't have the muscle conditioning to back it up. You can't afford these massive gaps in training. You should at least try to get out for a run once a week with some interval training, just enough to keep the muscle functional...

I'm pretty much on the same page about that problem 😉
Anyway, I've got an appointment with an orthopedic specialist in a week, so we'll probably do an ultrasound to see what's actually going on with the muscle tissue...

Thanks 👍

So, I just got diagnosed with an 8cm muscle tear today. My doctor at the trauma clinic says I'll be good as new in two weeks and my flexibility will bounce right back. Honestly, my calves are probably overdeveloped anyway since I’ve spent years grinding through heavy weighted runs every single day. Now I'm mostly just running bodyweight. There's a nasty bruise and some pretty bad swelling, but it is what it is.
What’s your take on all this?

Update: those two weeks have passed. It still feels tight and I'm limping a bit, but things are way better. The heparin helped quite a bit. Now I just need to work on mobility; doctor thinks I can get back to running in another two weeks. The bruise is still there, just fading out.

Hey everyone!
About a month and a half ago, I tore my quad during a soccer practice. I went to see a specialist, and they confirmed a tear about 2-3 cm long. My doctor told me I’d be back to regular training in about 15 days. To be honest, I tried getting ahead of schedule and have been working my way back for about a month now, but I’m still feeling this sharp pain right where the injury happened. There's some scar tissue there, and the muscle feels incredibly stiff. My physical therapist says everything looks fine and that I should be cleared for full intensity, but I'm just not there yet. I still can't kick the ball properly, and any quick changes in direction or hard passes trigger that sharp pain again. Has anyone else gone through something similar? Thanks.

So

I dealt with a microfracture once, and man, the burning sensation was absolutely intense for about three or four days, which made even just walking feel like a massive struggle... then, from day four through day fourteen, that stinging feeling would flare up whenever I tried to sprint, so instead of running, I stuck to some very light exercises that didn't put too much pressure on my quadriceps

The best approach is to massage the area toward your heart, apply some ice, and incorporate some gentle stretching...

But honestly, if there is one piece of real wisdom I can offer you, it’s that no physical therapist or doctor out there can truly understand how YOU personally experience the sensation in YOUR own leg

If it hurts, just give it some extra time to heal properly, and then start moving slowly, and you'll see how it goes...
