Look, I'm not saying it's a crime to ask for a little extra cash if it actually meant we'd get some real professionalism and actual quality around this forum, because let's be honest, we could all use a bit more substance.

What's the catch then? Who gets all that cash from this future (hopefully non-existent) idea of charging people to hang out here? Do the moderators need a raise...? Does someone need a new Tesla Model S...? If everything has been "working fine" up until now, why is someone suddenly deciding it's totally okay to reach into everyone's pockets and grab a few dollars...

We even had a PDF of complaints and grievances recently where a huge number of users voiced their concerns, and the most common ones were about the lack of moderators, the lack of professionalism, and how they get too involved in discussions just to defend their own side of things.
There were even some opinions suggesting it wouldn't be an issue to pay something in exchange for better quality.
But what exactly has changed in the meantime?

If everything has been working reasonably well up to this point, I don't see why we’re suddenly making payment an option for participating in discussions. I just can't wrap my head around charging for "free space." It’s like someone trying to charge people for the air in a specific section of Times Square just because they stepped off the subway and walked through it. Don't you think people will just start avoiding that area...?

Well, just look at the avatars and those custom user titles you all grab the second you get mod status; I won't go as far as dissecting your specific work, but the sheer ego boost you seem to get from being a moderator is pretty obvious.
On top of that, if this becomes a paid service, we users would actually be protected by consumer protection laws.
There wouldn't be any room left for moderator power trips.
Personally, I certainly won't be paying, so don't expect me to wander around complaining later.
The moment you introduce a subscription model, there's going to be a massive exodus.
And I'm definitely not the only one who feels that way...

We have actual professionals here who spend their time giving out free advice to people.
So now I’m just wondering who exactly is doing all that work while everyone else makes the money.
On top of that, instead of offering moderation duties to these serious, expert individuals—which would actually combine utility with a decent user experience—you choose to leave a bunch of frustrated types wandering around acting like they own the place just because they hold a moderator badge.
Honestly, you really ought to use your heads for once!
