Brawn GP doesn't even have KERS..☕

They aren't using KERS, so they probably won't even bother dealing with the fatigue of developing it this season since it's just an option—it’s going to be a massive headache for Brawn to keep up with the development curve (assuming those testing numbers actually hold up). It's much more likely they'll just buy it or get it bundled with their engines next year when it becomes mandatory.

Amanda Kelly said:So, the big question is whether that half-second advantage Brawn is seeing in testing will actually hold up against the Hybrid Technology being used by Ford and Ferrari.

My money is on red taking the top spot on the podium.

Well, Renault isn't exactly painted red, but whatever 😬

go Renault 👋

It’s not primarily red, but there's enough of it for me. I like it.

So, what's the deal with Honda's engine situation? I mean, seriously, where did all those millions they dumped into this just vanish? It feels like we're watching a massive sinkhole swallow up an entire budget while we're left standing here wondering when the actual results are going to show up on the track. 🤷

Amanda Kelly said:Let’s clear up the difference between power and energy here.
From what I recall, there was talk about limiting power, so when you mentioned being under 60 kW, I assume you were talking about maximum power output.

Energy is what gets stored up, which is why the usage duration matters.
It’s probably for the best that they limit how long you can use it; otherwise, drivers would just be using it for half the race.

They aren't allowed to store more than 60 kW, and that's the total amount they can tap into, if I've interpreted the regulations correctly.

Well, damn. You read them wrong. Send me a link.

To me, it seems pretty simple: you're allowed to get an extra 60-70-80 HP (or kW, whatever) for a maximum of 6 seconds per lap.
That would be the power output.

But how much energy they actually need to store to dump all that power in just 6 seconds? That's a whole different story. It comes down to efficiency, tech, and all that stuff...

What I mean is, to get that boost, one person might need 10 kWh (or however many Joules—that's the actual unit) while someone else needs 20, 30, or 100...

5.2 Alternative Propulsion Methods:
5.2.1 The deployment of any hardware or technology beyond that standard 2.4-liter, four-stroke engine mentioned in section 5.1—aside from the single KERS unit—is strictly prohibited when used to...
Is there any doubt that the driver must maintain absolute authority over the vehicle? It really comes down to this: the power must remain entirely under the driver's control at all times while the car is out on the track. There simply isn't any room for automated interference when you're pushing those limits.
Under section 5.2.2, there’s a specific rule regarding how much energy we can pull back from the track. Aside from having one single, fully charged energy recovery system on board, the total amount of recoverable energy stored within the car...
The energy limits are quite specific here, aren't they? We have to ensure that we don't go over the 300kJ threshold. Furthermore, if we happen to recover any energy at a rate exceeding 2kW, that particular amount needs to stay strictly under 20kJ. It’s a delicate balance to maintain, wouldn't you agree?
5.2.3 Is there a limit to how much energy we can actually harness? When it comes to the power output—whether it’s being deployed or recovered—any such system simply cannot exceed 60kW. It feels like a necessary boundary, wouldn't you agree?
There's a rule in place regarding the energy deployment from the recovery systems—basically, you can't let that extra burst of power exceed 400kJ during any single lap. It’s a necessary constraint, isn't it? It keeps things from spiraling out of control and ensures the competition stays balanced.

The measurements are going to be taken right at the point where they connect to the rear wheel drivetrain.
Regarding section 5.2.4: just to clarify the rule on energy storage—it’s strictly prohibited to increase the amount of stored energy in any hybrid recovery system while the car is sitting stationary during a race. It makes sense, doesn't it? You can't just top off your reserves while you're waiting at the pit wall or stuck behind a safety car. All that recharging has to happen while you're actually out there on the asphalt, putting in the work.
Is there anything quite as mesmerizing as a perfectly executed pit stop? I was watching some footage earlier, and it really got me thinking about the sheer, synchronized precision required to pull that off. It’s one thing to drive fast, but to have a crew of twenty people moving like a single organism to swap tires in two seconds flat? That’s art. It makes you wonder, doesn't it? How much of a race is actually won in the heat of the battle on the asphalt, and how much is decided by those frantic, breathless moments in the lane? One loose nut, one hesitant mechanic, and an entire championship effort could slip through your fingers. It’s a beautiful, high-stakes dance.
The driver should always maintain absolute authority over how any such system releases power while the car is out on the track. After all, shouldn't the person behind the wheel be the one ultimately calling the shots?
The car is out there on the track.

Well, there it is.

Nobody seems to be mentioning BMW, but if you ask me, they might just pull off a massive upset... Honestly, I am counting down the minutes until Sunday morning arrives.

All five of them? I have no clue how the FIA thinks they can actually control this😕 I mean, it’s not exactly a walk in the park, is it? Honestly, we're going to end up dealing with all this nonsense just because of this issue🙄 What, are they going to audit every single bit of telemetry after every single race? And what happens if, say, Lewis Hamilton😁 or anyone else uses KERS for even 6.001 seconds in a lap? Do they just get disqualified and stripped of their points or what?😕 If you ask me, the FIA could easily use this to mess with the season's tension🙄

If you ask me, it feels like almost anyone could catch us off guard at this point, with the exception of Force India.😁

They’d be lucky to surprise anyone😉 just imagine the absolute disaster if both Force Indie cars ended up ahead of McLaren😬 what a mess that would be. And even crazier? Both STR cars outperforming both Ferraris🤣

In the points:
2x STR
2x FI
2x BGP
2x RB
Everyone else gets swept away at the start by Nelson Piquet and the Renault engine🤣😂

Now that would be something😁

Alright, alright, I see you.
I love those short, punchy little sentences packed with subtext.

The first round of surprises—good or bad—will be clear by Saturday morning, and the second batch will show up a bit later on Sunday.
I’m just sitting here waiting for the practice sessions, which used to be broadcast live by ESPN.

This thread has all the ingredients to become the most active discussion on the entire forum (don't let the casual chatters take offense, there's no way to even count them).

So I just checked the ESPN schedule.

Friday at 6:00 AM, first practice session is live.
At 6:30 AM, second practice session is live.
Then there’s a replay of the second session at 2:00 PM.

We'll finally get a look at how that whole setup is performing.
I'm not dragging myself out of bed for these early broadcasts, but I'll record them.
Honestly, I don't think I've felt this much anticipation since the last championship decider in the past two seasons.

Whatever, man, I don't even have ESPN, but I'll tell you what—everything's going to be laid bare by Saturday morning and I am counting down the minutes. You're right about one thing though, this buildup feels longer than usual.

I don't have DFS😢 but I'll probably be awake anyway—maybe someone knows a good Netflix stream or something like that?🤷
