VLC Media Player issues

I’m not entirely sure if I should be starting a new thread here—@admin, please bear with me.

Anyway, here is what’s been on my mind:

I recently installed VLC Media Player, and I’ve noticed a strange pattern—every single time I use it to watch a movie, my macOS settings seem to go haywire... specifically, the system stops honoring the screensaver settings and ignores all the power-saving modes entirely. It isn't just a one-off glitch, either; I've observed this consistently over a significant period of time. So, my questions are:

1. Is it possible that certain codecs might be triggering this behavior?
2. Has anyone else encountered a similar issue?
3. Has anyone actually managed to find a fix for this?

The issue lies entirely with the player itself, really. You should probably spend a little more time digging through the settings, because VLC Media Player actually includes an option to disable the screensaver while simultaneously handling those pesky power-saving modes. Give this a shot: navigate to VLC Media Player -> Options -> Preferences -> general Options -> VLC Media Player -> Tools -> Preferences -> Interface and just uncheck the box for "Disable screensaver."

So, does that mean my screen saver is still going to kick in while I'm in the middle of a movie?

My theory is that this only happens if you actually pause the movie and just let it sit there; eventually, the system is going to kick in and trigger the screensaver based on whatever timeout period you've set.

I took a look and double-checked everything—it should stay on even while I'm watching a movie...

So, I don't really get how movie subtitles actually work. If anyone could break it down for me, that would be great. Thanks.

They basically work by syncing up with the action on screen; when you see an actor start talking, the subtitles pop up at the bottom to give you the gist of what they’re rambling about or why someone is losing their cool. 🙂

I suspect it would be more than sufficient to download the latest 18.2.2 update, which apparently patches all those tedious subtitle glitches..
On my end, everything is running smoothly..
