Anyone else a fan of parodies?

I think those movies are alright. Honestly, though, it would be pretty hilarious if they did a parody of some cheesy soap opera.
Like, imagine if ten identical triplets suddenly showed up out of nowhere or something.

But if your definition of a parody includes things like >, >, >, or the > franchise... then absolutely not. I can't stand those movies, and frankly, I have zero respect for anyone involved in making them or anyone who actually sits through them. ☕

While I find myself quite willing to sit through a well-crafted parody, I must confess that I have absolutely no patience for a poorly executed one.

However, I suspect that sentiment applies to just about every cinematic genre imaginable. The mere fact that a motion picture is categorized as a parody doesn't inherently guarantee that it will be anything other than mediocre, for better or for worse.

Some are great, I guess, while others? Just totally hit or miss.

I have such a soft spot for those 80s and early 90s parodies: 'The Naked Gun' (the first two are absolute classics, though the third is passable), 'Airplane!' (just the original is great), and both 'Hot Shots!' films.

Honestly, what they're churning out these days is just terrible.

I honestly feel like anyone can rip off an existing idea—it’s actually pretty easy to do.
It's way harder, though, to make a movie successful enough that people actually recognize it when a parody shows up. To me, a parody is just the creator admitting they can't come up with anything original themselves. So, like someone else already said, I just can't stand parodies.

Look, it’s incredibly easy to churn out a trash parody that lacks any actual wit or soul—it's just mindless mockery for the sake of it. That’s exactly why the market is flooded with them. But hey, there are actually some decent ones out there 🙂

You occasionally stumble upon some actually decent parodies. For instance, there was one where Robert De Niro and Dustin Hoffman play White House officials who basically feed the press fake news about a conflict with Albania... Or that one where Warren Beatty plays a politician with a massive butt. I can't quite recall the titles right now—they’re good, though—but I still haven't checked out Tropic Thunder, which looks pretty solid...

But honestly, these modern parodies that just rip off big blockbusters? They're absolute bottom-of-the-barrel trash...

Look, those movies you mentioned are more like social satires than actual movie parodies.

As far as parodies go, I totally agree—those older ones from the 80s and 90s are way, way better. They actually have soul, they're funnier, and they're much more enjoyable to watch compared to these recent attempts by the Wayans brothers (seriously, how many of them are there, like 67? 😁). I can still sit down and genuinely laugh my head off watching "Hot Shots!", "Loaded Weapon", "Airplane!", or "The Naked Gun". But these newer garbage piles? Everything just boils down to cheap shock humor—vomit, gross stuff, fart jokes, etc. You watch one once, maybe chuckle at a joke or two if you're lucky, and by the next morning, it's completely vanished from your brain. It just doesn't cut it. 👎

There are some truly wild characters in there, which actually appealed to me right from the jump, even though I feel like
there have already been plenty of soap opera parodies out there—but you can never have enough irony, which is the backbone of high-quality humor.
To me, a true parody is one that makes you stop and think, "Wait, are they actually being serious right now???" 😬

Yes, well, truly hilarious. 🙄 It feels like it’s been years since we’ve seen a decent parody, so whenever their names come up, I can’t help but feel a bit skeptical.

Parodies are basically comedies for people with zero depth who just want cheap gags thrown at them. Whatever, though—they’re living in their own little paradise. 😁

Everything featuring Leslie Nielsen is just pure gold. Honestly, that blank, deadpan stare of his is absolutely lethal.
Take that one scene from The Naked Gun: Leslie says, "When I see five weirdos in costumes murdering an innocent man, I take them out. That's my policy."
And then the police chief hits him back with, "That was an open-air production of Julius Caesar, you idiot. You just killed five actors—five great actors."
And then you just get that classic, clueless look on his face. It’s priceless...🙏🙏🙏

Interesting... looks like parodies aren't exactly a crowd favorite around here. I get it, though. Given how much garbage gets dumped on us lately under the guise of a parody—stuff like Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, Superhero movie, Date Movie, or Scary Movie (though the first one actually held up)—it’s hard to stay optimistic.
I live for parodies, but those old-school ones hit different. I’d say the heavy hitters are definitely The Naked Gun trilogy, the Airplane! series, the Hot Shots! series, Loaded Weapon, Police Squad!, Top Secret!, Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and Austin Powers. Then you've got stuff like Mars Attacks! and Galaxy Quest—which is such an obvious and killer Galaxy Quest parody of Star Trek.

If you ask me, a lot of movies end up being unintentional satires or parodies anyway. Most remakes, for instance, act as a parody of the original while simultaneously serving as a satire of Hollywood itself. I was watching the 2007 version of > the other day—honestly, it feels like a parody of the 1986 >!

Some people dismiss The Naked Gun as total garbage, but honestly, it’s one of the greatest comedies ever made in my book. I don't know where else I find this much laughs; even on my twentieth viewing, it still hits just as hard.
