I’ve scrolled through tons of threads, but honestly, none of them actually answer what I’m asking.
So, look—I’ve got way too much gut fat, and I need to know the easiest way to burn it off without hitting a gym. I'm talking strictly running, crunches, pushups, and that kind of stuff! But obviously, we all know you can't outrun a bad diet, so if someone could just drop some simple meal ideas that aren't a total headache, that'd be huge!

Honestly, if you want someone to map out your entire meal plan and design actual workouts... you probably need an online personal trainer 😕

But then again, how much do you actually weigh? How tall are you? What's your age, what's your heart health like, your hormones... maybe your joints can't handle the impact from running, and you end up doing more harm than good to your ankles
My advice, since you seem to have a goal in mind, is to either go see a pro for some guidance or just share a bit more about yourself so someone can suggest a routine... also, take a look through that recreation and fitness PDF 👍 there’s honestly so much solid info in there that I find it hard to believe none of it answers your question—which, no offense, is pretty much the most common one asked 👍

I'm about 5'5", 123 lbs, and 13 years old—everything else is totally fine. My joints are good, my heart is solid... honestly, everything's great except for one thing. This damn acne is killing me!😠

I suspect we might be looking at what some people call "puberty fat," which I imagine will simply dissipate on its own once you finally move past those adolescent years...

You actually have a thread titled "How to lose the belly fat" over in the Fitness and Recreation subforum; I’d suggest scrolling through that for a bit if you want some ideas.

Maybe try having a quick chat with your Physical Education Department instructor... they might actually have some decent advice on how to reach your goals. You're still pretty young, and look, I get it—wanting to take care of your physique is fine, even commendable... but you're still very much in a growing phase...

Check out this thread: Belly Fat...

Belly fat behaves a bit differently than fat stored elsewhere. You've got to be intentional about targeting it. Your best bet is a mix of steady cardio and tightening up your diet.

Wow, just great—why don't we just send him straight toward an eating disorder? The kid is 13 and weighs 123 lbs, yet you guys are out here giving him "advice" on how to lose weight.

Kid, if you're 123 lbs, you need to be packing on muscle, not cutting down. You aren't overweight—you're scrawny. If you try this, you'll wreck your metabolism and end up looking frail. Forget dieting at 13—just get active. Run, or if you want a better core, do some sit-ups. Just don't listen to some idiot on a forum who thinks you need to eat 17 tiny meals a day on a strict schedule or follow some insane alternating cardio/strength routine. To stay healthy and look good, all you really need is common sense and logic.

Well, I certainly can!

Look, even if you feel like that "spare tire" around your waist—which, let’s be honest, looks way more massive than what most people your age are dealing with—trust me, it isn't actually that bad.

That guy above with the handle amis
pretty much laid it all out for you. If you want to burn off those nasty layers, you're going to have to run—but please, don't just go out there blindly. You need a proper check-up first (just head to any local YMCA or a decent gym, have them check your heart rate, and they can give you a structured, gradual workout plan).

Don't let anything intimidate you, and honestly, forget that whole "no pain, no gain" nonsense; it's such a tired cliché.

Buddy, you'll have to put in some real work, but seriously—do not skip the medical clearance. Don't even think about jumping into intense physical activity until a pro gives you the green light.

Good luck!

I think that might be a bit much, though. If you ask me, the best way to start would just be playing some pickup soccer with his classmates; I really doubt anything catastrophic is going to happen—well, unless he ends up with a busted knee or something.

So, is that Renata Sopek workout CD actually any good?

Forget about Renata Sopek—just go play soccer or some other sport. Don't listen to those idiots who think you need a medical degree just to go for a run. Just get out into nature, hit 50 to 100 crunches every night, and call it a day. Your body will naturally fill out until you're 25—you'll just keep getting stronger every single year. Honestly, don't even bother stressing over all that extra stuff.

I can't remember if you're actually looking for stuff to do at home—if so, grab those Tae-bo DVDs with Billy Blanks. You can just download them online, honestly, it’s probably your best bet. It’d be perfect for you since there's no bulky weights or anything—just fast, high-energy full-body workouts to get you toned up properly. Give it a shot.

I’m with them on this one. You really don't need any intense, structured regimens just to add a little activity to your life. 😂 You're only 13; I highly doubt you have any major issues to worry about. Like they said: play soccer, ride your bike, drink plenty of water, and just stay active. Eventually, you can toss in some sit-ups or similar exercises to build strength, but I don't see why you'd need to run for thirty minutes every morning before doing core work when you don't even have much body fat to begin with. Your body is still growing, so there's no reason to stress over diets or obsessing over an extra inch of waistline. It’ll take a few more years for you to fully mature, and you've still got growing to do—you might even hit a massive growth spurt soon. I know several guys who were pretty short and then suddenly shot up around age 14 or 15. Bottom line: don't sweat it.

If you actually pay attention, I didn't have any idea who he was after that first post... that’s exactly why I asked how old he was and why I brought up those other questions in the first place... I mean, for all I knew, we were talking about some 30-year-old guy weighing 220 pounds... And regarding the whole thirteen-year-old thing, look, there are people out there born with heart defects they aren't even aware of... so getting a full checkup from a doctor isn't exactly a bad idea... It's certainly better than just telling a kid to knock out a hundred crunches every single night and calling it a day... because if they actually do that, you're just asking for physical issues elsewhere... The way an organism actually develops... it’s all just a series of complicated, messy little steps... nothing ever happens all at once, really. You look at the biological progression, the sheer complexity of how a single cell decides to become a functioning system, and it feels almost too deliberate... or maybe it's just chaotic luck? Hard to say... It’s like watching a slow-motion construction project where the blueprints are constantly being rewritten on the fly... quite a lot to wrap one's head around... Especially at thirteen... there’s so much ground you could cover there... I mean, from what I can gather, the kid isn't even looking for advice on which sport to pick up or how to hang out with the other kids in the neighborhood. He's focused on getting rid of belly fat. That shouldn't be something a thirteen-year-old is even stressing about... really...

Look, Jacob Baker23... you should probably just go talk to your PE teacher. I’m pretty sure he’d actually be happy to help you out if you just asked...

The professor is gonna tell you the exact same thing I did—get into a sport. It’s hands down the healthiest way to train and build yourself up. Plus, you actually learn a skill. You gotta learn how to play soccer or basketball or something. You don't want to be one of those meatheads who just spends all day lifting weights—those guys are a joke. You push one of them and they practically collapse because they have zero motor skills. They lift heavy like idiots but can't move an inch. You need to be active, preferably outside in the fresh air. Swimming is the absolute best way for a younger guy to shape his body—build those shoulders and that back... okay, maybe a little joke there, but if you get the proportions right, you'll look solid.

As far as diet goes,

Always hit the cereal or something sweet in the morning—think toast with jam or cornflakes with honey. Your brain needs that sugar hit early on to actually function. Whatever you do, don't touch cheese, deli meats, or that junk first thing in the morning.

Lunch should be a standard meal packed with veggies. Avoid salt, heavy spices, and greasy food—like, eat boiled potatoes instead of fried ones.

For dinner, stick to fruit, or if you're actually hungry, go for fish or meat with veggies (like tuna with tomatoes). And seriously, never eat sweets at night—it'll just wake your brain up when it's trying to shut down—and stay away from stuff like potatoes, tons of bread, or eggs.

Look, I wasn't attacking you just because of the questions you asked him; my issue is that your approach is being far too systematic. We aren't talking about him suddenly deciding to become a professional athlete training intensely seven days a week. For just playing soccer with his friends, these kinds of measures are way too extreme. You’re going to end up scaring him off.
