I mean, do those things actually have any kind of impact on your health or whatever?

Yeah, if you stopped using them, you'd probably be dead within a month or so.

That's not really what I meant.
I mean, can adding protein shakes to your diet actually mess you up? Like, is all that stuff just pure chemicals or whatever?

Not at all. It isn't "chemicals" in that sense.

I'm trying to pack on some muscle... I'm 5'11" and about 172 lbs... I've been training boxing, but the gains just aren't happening... so if anyone has any advice on how to actually bulk up, I'm all ears.

Based on what he’s saying here, it sounds like you're pretty lean and might be having a tough time putting on weight. Let's be real—muscle doesn't just show up at your door unannounced, right? It takes a massive amount of grit, discipline, and actually knowing what you're doing. Everyone knows the drill: you need heavy lifting at the gym and, obviously, a seriously dialed-in diet.😉

So, if you really are running thin, your first move should probably be "bulking up"—meaning you need to put on some quality mass first. Once you've successfully packed on enough weight, then you can start the process of leaning out into that muscle, all while keeping up those intense gym sessions to actually build the strength.

I’m definitely not exactly skinny... I’ve been hitting the boxing gym for eight months now and still nothing.

Haha, well, honestly, those eight months of boxing might not be doing much for your physique... I personally spent three years in the ring, from age 14 to 17, and while my technique became quite solid, I didn't put on a single pound of muscle.🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂...In my case, I stand about 6'3" and used to weigh somewhere between 165 and 183 lbs... if your goal is to build actual muscle, I'd suggest focusing on putting on some bulk first before you worry too much about hitting your protein macros...
Nowadays, I’m about 6'4" and weighing in at around 207 lbs... I started hitting the gym regularly, and I seem to gain about two pounds every month or so, though it's a slow process. That initial layer of fat I picked up from all that mass gainer—you know, the stuff you can buy at any supplement shop—is slowly burning off as I lean out.

P.S. Where were you training boxing? (Was it one of those big gyms like Gold's Gym, Planet Fitness, or maybe an old-school local club in Chicago or New York?)

I honestly doubt you’re going to get an answer here, considering we haven't seen Spir around the forums in four whole months...
