What are the best movies with a vision of the future?

The Day After Tomorrow—everyone is obsessed with global warming lately, but I find it hard to believe we'll face a flood in the morning, an ice age by lunch, and then everything just thaws out by dinner...

Planet of the Apes—honestly, looking at our government and how things are going here in the States, that vision of the future seems to have already arrived.😁

I honestly think the depletion of oil and similar energy sources will just push us faster toward artificial intelligence. I don't see a > scenario playing out; it’ll be more like a Terminator or Matrix situation, though certainly not anytime soon. We’ve evolved too much to just descend into total warfare over oil. To me, running out of oil hits corporations and governments way harder than it hits the average person. Because of that, they'll find ways to offload as many jobs as possible onto machines and computers—which, if you ask me, is already happening much faster than we "ordinary mortals" realize. Plus, Hollywood has shown us repeatedly that whenever AI gets involved, things rarely end well. It’s like when you’re using a vacuum; you finish up, unplug the cord, and the machine is dead until you plug it back in. The real trouble starts when the machine *knows* the floor is dirty and decides to start cleaning on its own—then one tiny glitch in its bits and it decides to vacuum *you* instead... I could probably go on about this forever, especially after a few beers, but it all boils down to a fear of machines. I work in IT, so I know enough to actually be a little spooked by certain things... I'll give you another trivial example that might seem irrelevant, but I think it illustrates the point:
We all have computers and mess around with them constantly, and usually, after an installation, you need a restart. Recently, I installed an app and a prompt popped up saying something like, "Restarting in 20 seconds, save your work now or lose everything." It didn't screw me over because it was a simple task, but someone a bit less tech-savvy would have been left with zero options in that moment.
Some people are going to laugh at my post, and some maybe won't...

Honestly, I have a gut feeling that humanity is going to end up destroying itself long before we ever have to deal with some little green alien invasion.

Of course, if we look back thousands of years—even longer, really—the US hasn't been threatened by comets, and our primary existential threats remain nuclear weaponry and global warming.

"Global warming"? Honestly, I think that term might just be a precursor to an ice age, rather than some scenario where we all end up underwater. Maybe it’s just my take, but I don't see the whole world sinking anytime soon.

I mean, I'm right there with you... honestly, the closest thing we've got to a real-life scenario is probably some kind of Mad Max nightmare, mostly because everyone is going to be clawing at each other over oil reserves... though, if things go south fast enough, we could just as easily end up in a total disaster movie like The Day After Tomorrow
