So, I managed to stab myself with a freshly sharpened standard wooden pencil😳 right in the tip of my right index finger. It went in pretty deep—like, the pencil actually stayed stuck in there for a second before I pulled it out—but now I can clearly see that some of the graphite is still lodged inside. It’s visible, and honestly, it feels way too deep for me to try digging it out myself. My finger is really throbbing.
Do you guys think I should head to the doctor for this? I'm worried about catching something like sepsis or something similar.😕

Just drown it in whiskey—or bourbon if you prefer. If the swelling starts, get yourself to a doctor immediately.

I honestly don't know... how deep are we talking? Sam Hall15—Sam! We have a serious situation on our hands here!!! Just soak it, then head straight to the urgent care first thing tomorrow morning to get that extracted; why on earth would you try to tinker with it yourself?

A friend of mine—just some girl back in middle school—got poked in the hand with a pencil, and she still has a tiny bit of graphite lodged under her skin 🙂, and honestly, forget about using antiseptic or whatever; everything will be just fine.

Goodness, what am I even doing? I mean... you literally just asked how deep it goes... (🙄 oh boy!

I poked my eye with a pencil when I was nine years old, and I can still see a black spot there today

🤣

Honestly, if you’d said "in the butt" instead of "in the hand," I would've been the one doing the stabbing! 😳.

It was second grade, I'm positive. And knowing that girl, she probably still has graphite lodged in her backside because I never used those cheap little sharpeners—my mom used to use those tiny craft knives to sharpen pencils until they were basically lethal weapons😁.

So, how exactly do they pull those out?.. I’ve always had a massive phobia of needles😳 ...will they give me some kind of anesthesia first?

I honestly couldn't say—maybe they'll just apply a topical numbing agent... if not, you can always try being incredibly polite about it 🙂... personally, when my dentist left those tiny little fragments of bone in the gum after an extraction, she just dabbed a bit of Lidocaine on the area. And listen, between us—wouldn't you much rather deal with a needle or a pair of small tweezers than rusty pliers?😬 .

Perhaps you simply misperceived her hand as a posterior, which makes her the culprit... maybe we can reunite you two! Ah! A long-lost friend indeed!...🤣

Here I am 😁
The injection site is sore due to some inflammation, which is actually a positive sign...
Graphite itself isn't dangerous; if the swelling subsides in a few days, there is no need for a doctor unless it becomes bothersome, continues to spread, or you develop systemic symptoms
There is no risk of sepsis, so please don't worry

Just wanted to vent for a second... I still have this pretty large chunk of graphite stuck under the skin of my right index finger. You can actually see it through the skin, and it’s honestly such a pain when I'm trying to type. To make matters worse, I ended up poking myself right next to it today, leaving another tiny little sliver of graphite wedged in there.😳

(Side note: I also managed to shatter a Pyrex dish earlier, and a shard of glass sliced right into my big toe—it almost took a chunk out of the side. I really didn't want to lose any part of my toe, so I just threw a Band-Aid on it and hoped for the best. It's healing somewhat, but man, it hurts, and it looks like I've got a nasty bruise forming underneath.)

Man, if you only saw the burn I got from the iron... honestly, I don't even touch it anymore.😁 ...It was awful, I think I'm actually starting to feel a fever coming on.🙂
