do you think she should see a dermatologist?

YES.
I once had a boyfriend who dealt with the exact same thing... he still has them on his back... thinking back on it, it looked pretty bad and was even noticeable just by touch... it was a relationship at the time, so we moved past it, but it wasn't exactly pleasant to look at or feel...
I'm not trying to overwhelm you here, I'm just suggesting you take her to a doctor...
in his case (which sounds exactly like what you described), they weren't just pimples, they were boils....
your skin is basically a mirror for your health, and it isn't right for things to be breaking out like that for no reason... anyway, his dermatologist told him that boils are often linked to dental issues, so he had to get all his cavities fixed first before they could work on removing the boils.... boils are like little sacs that constantly fill up with infection, so his doctor said they actually need to be surgically removed, because if those "sacs" aren't taken out, they just keep filling up. A boil might calm down or recede for a bit, but then it just fills right back up again...

Roger Garcia9 said:I used to deal with quite a bit of acne across my back. My dermatologist suggested it was likely due to some sort of skin thickening, though I suppose I didn't fully grasp the clinical implications of what that actually meant at the time. To manage it, I ended up picking up an over-the-counter acne lotion and a 2% Clindamycin topical solution from the pharmacy. I made it a habit to apply one in the morning and the other in the evening. Eventually, after struggling with it for a few years, the issue cleared up entirely and hasn't really bothered me since.

Oh really?! Do you need a prescription for that stuff?

They stay inflamed and painful for ages, like a solid week, and then the redness and scarring linger forever... I’m talking nearly a year of marks...😢... It's not like I get a bunch at once, but because the redness takes so long to fade, it looks like I have a dozen different spots going on at the same time...

It’s honestly awful. I feel like I’ve been fighting this since I can even remember. Things actually calmed down quite a bit over the last two years—it even cleared up completely for a while, which was huge because that's when I started getting intimate with my boyfriend... But now it's back, and the thought of him seeing me like this absolutely terrifies me... 🙂

My skin is otherwise totally fine. No acne, no breakouts on my face or anywhere else on my body... just this one thing. And obviously, I’m super diligent about my hygiene...

Do you guys think I should go see a dermatologist? Has anyone else dealt with something similar, and if so, how did you actually fix it...?

Please, no mean comments. Thanks...

😲😲😲

I mean, I don't think my situation is quite that extreme... but I am definitely going to see a dermatologist regardless...
Besides, I don't actually have any dental issues (I literally just went for a checkup yesterday...), I have great skin, and I've never had acne or boils anywhere on my body before...

This sounds absolutely terrifying, I'm actually starting to get worried now...😢

Oh, please...🙂...what is there to worry about?.....Just get a referral and head to the dermatologist, everything can be fixed... besides, I highly doubt you're dealing with cysts (and even that ex of yours eventually managed to clear up his issue), though frankly, your vivid description is to blame for making me relive old memories....😛.......

That sounds pretty typical for cystic acne. But tell me—is this happening constantly, or can you link it to something like PMS?
Next time one pops up, just go see a dermatologist (if you're near a major center like the Mayo Clinic or similar) and please, don't feel embarrassed. Sometimes you need to run some tests, and honestly, a lot of this stuff can be managed pretty easily with a prescription. 🙂

Regarding that acne lotion, I don't believe a prescription is required, though I suppose I can't be entirely certain about Clindamycin. In my case, I didn't actually receive a formal prescription; rather, I simply presented my medical history showing that this specific therapy had been recommended to me previously. As I recall, Clindamycin was available $13 whereas the lotion was closer to $6.75.

Clindamycin definitely requires a prescription, though it’s usually used for facial acne or maybe spots on your back—not really for boils. For boils, a sulfur-based ointment works much better. My doctor prescribed one to me once when I had an ingrown hair on my leg that started getting infected. It worked well if you just apply it and cover it with a gauze pad for a couple of days—just leave it there until the inflammation clears out. It helped me, anyway, though I only dealt with that once.

I suppose she’ll have to be the one to determine whether she’s actually dealing with acne or boils. Since acne typically doesn't present itself in a way that allows for squeezing, whereas boils tend to be quite purulent and can be expressed, I suspect—though I could be mistaken—that what she's experiencing is likely just acne.

I’ve been dealing with this issue for a while now... getting these painful boils on my backside. :/ They're pretty brutal, too—they won't pop or anything. Sometimes they get so inflamed that I can't even sit down properly without intense pain. It’s awful. I can't squeeze them out, and then after maybe a week or two, they finally settle down, but I'm left with a "scar" that stays there almost constantly... I really don't know how to fix this. I feel like I've tried everything under the sun and nothing works. This is honestly killing me... if anyone has some smart advice on what might actually help, please let me know 🙂
thanks!

Greetings! To save everyone from scrolling through everything, I’ll jump straight to my advice! My husband has been struggling with breakouts on his backside and thighs—he's a long-haul trucker, so he spends all day in a cab, and even with cotton underwear and staying clean, these temperatures have caused quite a flare-up. Since he was looking so miserable about it, I decided to try a little DIY remedy! I brewed some sage tea, let it cool down, and grabbed those tiny washcloths you use for babies. I soaked them in the tea and applied them as a compress to his thighs. He went to sleep, which made it much easier since it's awkward to apply while he's moving around! I left it on for about 20 minutes (re-wetting it twice), and by morning, the inflammation had subsided by about 80%—and I promise I'm not exaggerating, even 😲 would agree! I applied a soothing cream in the morning too. They look like acne to me—red patches of varying sizes that aren't raised or easy to squeeze, just very flat and angry-looking. By morning, they looked almost dried out; you can still tell they were there, but the redness was gone, leaving just tiny little spots. I'm doing it again tonight. He was absolutely thrilled, and honestly, seeing him relieved after being so discouraged makes it all worth it. Please give this a shot! Sage is inexpensive, and the solution is so simple that I’m actually a bit annoyed at myself for not thinking of it sooner!
Good luck to everyone, and I will certainly check back in to let you know how things progress over the next few days.
