Sundance Film Festival 2007 (and related stuff)

So, another Sundance is coming up soon—the crew and I were thinking it might be fun to hit up the festival this year...
I'm having a bit of a hard time figuring out the lodging situation, and if we end up staying in a tent, I'm already stressing about hygiene and how comfortable those things actually are... plus, how many days should we stay? And once we get there, how long is the drive from the Napa Valley area to the coast?

Anyway, if anyone here has been to Sundance before, I'd love to hear what you thought about it 🙂

Of course it's not far
but I don't really feel like being there until 10 just to drive home, nap, and then head back again in the morning... plus, maybe we could have some fun in the evening too... there's also that factor 🙂

I was actually planning on tenting this year, but then I checked the official website and saw they require you to buy a specific pass just to sleep in the camp $167 (LOL 😠 ), so I decided against it. I have zero interest in dealing with the headache of illegal camping!

Meanwhile, I read somewhere that the pass is $33, and then you still have to pay $1.75 per day just for the stay...

This is my first time heading out this year and I’m completely lost when it comes to lodging. Honestly, I'm a bit worried because I'm going with a group of drinkers who are probably going to be absolutely hammered and will likely end up setting an eco-toilet on fire while I'm just trying to watch movies... though let's be real, I'll probably end up drinking right along with them, because there's no way I can handle the fact that out of my seven friends, every single one of them is a total movie-phobe—basically a complete film-hater who's just here for the 😎

Okay, so they fixed it so it's $33, but if you're a student, accreditation for basically all the screenings is only $150, which honestly seems totally fine 🙂
I was browsing through some sleeping bags and tents today—might end up grabbing some in the next few days, I guess 😉

This will be my fourth year hitting up Sundance. I've always just crashed at some private rentals or Airbnbs, but this time I'll probably end up camping out.
Honestly, I’m expecting better movies, better vibes, and way better organization this year because last year was a total letdown. hehe, this is their last chance to make it right.

Official Sundance blog:
There was another press conference today. It looks like we're going to have as many films as everyone was expecting.
The total number of screenings will stay roughly the same, though there will be fewer encore presentations.

I went last year and, honestly, it was a total waste of time because the lineup was garbage. 🤮 Just an absolute train wreck. It got to the point where I felt like losing my mind right in the middle of a screening 🙏. But I didn't—that would have been ridiculous—instead, I just walked out and 🤮. Napa Valley is essentially one giant pile of junk. I'm completely over the whole Sundance vibe. The films were an absolute d i s a s t e r 🤮 🤮 🤮

it's always such a blast, honestly. If you go the camping route, you'll basically be using cafe bathrooms for everything, and since I really value my comfort, if I were in your shoes, I'd definitely try to snag an apartment with the group. Maybe check online or just Google it? If you can't find anything, maybe just head out there during the day and ask the locals if anyone has a spare room—you'll definitely find something... it's been pretty crowded in Napa Valley lately, so I'm hoping this year isn't too packed so we can actually catch more movies... last year we got totally washed out by the rain....

Well, gosh, you totally misread the situation.
For $33, if you buy 5 passes (meaning, not 5 individual transactions of $33, but rather you get a voucher for five passes when you pay for $33), you can camp. The whole point is simply to prevent those people from flooding the campgrounds who wouldn't even bother climbing the hill, let alone actually sitting down to watch a single film.

Since I’ll be driving my own car, I was wondering about a few things... I know people usually leave their vehicles down in the lower lots and then just walk or grab a shuttle into town—but does parking actually get difficult, or can you usually find a spot without much trouble? Or is it one of those situations where you just end up circling around until you find any available space?

Seems like a smart move to me. They could have implemented this much sooner, considering it's essentially a film festival camp.. 😁
