I’m looking for a diagnosis, some advice, or just any kind of insight.
So, about halfway between my ankle and my foot on my left leg—roughly 2-3 cm to the left of the shin bone—there’s this protrusion. It only shows up when I’m standing or putting weight on that leg. Otherwise, you can’t see it or feel it at all. When I do touch it, it feels a bit like pressing against a slightly thick balloon. It isn't hard like bone; you can actually press it down and it indents. If I move the skin around, the bump stays put right where it is. I remember one time during a long run, I felt a sharp pain like it was coming from the bone itself, though it subsided once I switched to just walking. During that episode, the bump looked larger, and if I recall correctly, a second one briefly appeared. That was a one-time thing. I’ve had this bump for about a year now, maybe longer, and it hasn't changed size. It doesn't hurt, whether I touch it or not. For context, I have a pretty lean build, and there’s nothing like this on my right leg or anywhere else on the left. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hey... I've got this swelling on my right ankle too... it's actually less painful when I'm walking, though it doesn't really hurt much, just feels a bit tight. They told me it's just a cyst and I'm headed in soon to have it removed! But looking at my ankle, it almost looks ridiculous, I can barely even tell which part is my actual ankle anymore...😛

Oh goodness
my son went through the exact same thing
they went in for an ultrasound and the doctor said everything looked fine... they’re thinking it might just be a swollen vein since the kid (he's 17 and a half) has really flat feet
if I were in your shoes—just being cautious, of course—I'd probably head over to see a specialist just to be safe
best of luck!

I’ve had this thing on my right leg for about twenty years now. There were times when it would ache a bit while I was walking, and my doctor suggested it might just be some fatty tissue near the vein causing it to bulge slightly before and after activity, though he mentioned I could have it removed if it ever actually started bothering me.
Since it hasn't really caused me any trouble for years and I don't even feel it anymore, I've just left it alone.
It probably all started back in my younger days from all the dancing I used to do in local community theater groups.

My tibia is acting up again after my runs—honestly, I’m at a bit of a loss here. It feels silly to keep dragging myself back to the doctor, given how often I seem to be sitting in those waiting rooms lately. But it’s truly frustrating when the pain is so specific... you know, localized right on the bone itself rather than just some vague muscle ache. I mean... I don't even run that much! I make sure to use high-end sneakers with plenty of air cushioning, and I’m quite diligent about stretching and massaging the area, so it feels quite peculiar. Perhaps it's because I'm carrying a little extra weight or because I have flat feet? Or—and this is just a hunch—could it be related to bone density? My dental work has been a bit of a nightmare due to demineralization, and I have a few other health quirks going on as well. I feel like I'll lose my mind if I stop running, yet there's really nothing else I enjoy nearly as much. The funniest part? I usually run on asphalt, but last year, when I switched exclusively to grass, the pain was actually much worse (?!). Does a stress fracture feel unbearable, or is it possible to just walk right through one without even realizing it? (I suppose all I'm missing is a pair of crutches at this point...) goodness me! 😢

I’ve been dealing with this little lump, maybe about two inches, just below my knee for years now. It isn't really visible unless I’m standing still or if my legs are feeling particularly exhausted at the end of the day. Lately, though, things have shifted. My right leg has started aching—not just the lump itself, but the whole area stretching up from my hip—and I’ve noticed some other smaller bumps appearing above the knee. You can't actually see them, but you can definitely feel them when you touch the skin. I suppose I'm wondering... what could this possibly be?

It’s basically just varicose veins—venous insufficiency, if you want to get technical about it. When you’re standing up, the blood pressure in those veins spikes, which causes them to swell and fill up with blood... honestly, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it right now, at least not until you start seeing a whole bunch more of them popping up everywhere.

Zachary Kern6, I appreciate you weighing in, but I’ve got these little lumps just above my knee that stay put even when I’m sitting down. They feel like tiny little balls tucked deep beneath the skin. You can't see them, but if you feel around, they're definitely there. Then there's this other spot right below the knee—it stays hidden while I'm seated, but once I stand up for a while or tense the muscles in my right leg, it pops out like a small plum. On that same right leg, I’ve also noticed some minor broken capillaries. I don't see any obvious bulging veins or anything, but the whole area tends to ache whenever the weather shifts or after I've been walking for a bit too long. I guess I'm just feeling pretty anxious about it all... could someone please tell me what might be going on?

It’s highly probable we're looking at varicose veins here... but honestly, without an actual exam, I'm just throwing out educated guesses. You really ought to head over to a doctor; it isn't exactly a huge ordeal to get an appointment. Usually, the varicose veins themselves aren't much of a headache unless they start getting inflamed... the real concern is deep vein issues and the potential for thrombosis. Since you mentioned you're actually feeling pain, I would strongly suggest getting a professional checkup and an ultrasound of your veins to be safe.
