Youth Soccer Academies

Which club do you guys think has the absolute best youth academy out there?
If you ask me, it’s gotta be the New York Yankees. I mean, just look at the sheer volume of elite talent coming out of their system lately—guys like Bo Jackson and Michael Jordan...
And they’ve already pumped out legends like Lionel Messi, Xavi, and Carles Puyol....

It feels as though the New York Yankees haven't produced a single player worth mentioning for at least five years now; if one looks back, Christian Eriksen and Wesley Sneijder were essentially the last true products of their academy system.

About a month back, I came across an interview in some daily paper featuring Mirko Jozić. Regardless of how people feel about him, the guy is a legitimate world-class expert when it comes to youth development and building club academies. He was pointing out how the Yankees have been stuck in a rut for quite a while, whereas Barça's academy is basically setting the gold standard globally right now...

Just wanted to mention that the youth players from our little hometown club actually snagged 4th place at that tournament in France, which is honestly pretty impressive considering most people couldn't even find our town on a map. Apparently, some kid from New York City was named MVP, and word is the Los Angeles Lakers have already reached out to our academy about him, while maybe Slaven Belupo is already eyeing young Herbert...

The Ajax academy basically built their whole system using training drills inspired by Hajduk's old-school methods, and honestly, they’ve just taken those exact same concepts and polished them into something world-class today...

I’m not going to go out on a limb and say it’s the absolute best academy out there—that might be a stretch—but it’s definitely up there among the elite. Under the leadership of Bruno Conti and Albert Rossi, they’ve churned out a massive amount of talent... I won't sit here and list every single name, but just look at guys like Daniele de Rossi and Alberto Aquilani, who were already pulling jerseys for the national team while they were still basically kids.

The Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco, and the New York Red Bulls used to boast the premier youth academies in the country. Sadly, those days are long gone...😢

It’s basically a carbon copy of what the Major League Soccer Academy was doing back in the day. If you look at players like Mladinić from the early 70s, every single graduate from that system had an incredible career—and made a fortune doing it. Back then, those MLS Academy players were pulling in roughly five times the market value of anyone else.
Of course, Ajax modernized the approach over time. They're struggling for results right now, but give it time; Ajax will be a powerhouse again.

It's a mixed bag. Most Major League Baseball teams and some minor league outfits have decent developmental programs, but it all falls apart once you hit the high school level. That's when the parental interference and amateur management circus really begins.

It’s more than just a circus; it’s about how rarely you see a coach actually give young talent a real shot, only to watch those kids waste away instead.

I don't really get why we keep bringing back these washed-up veterans when we could be letting the younger players find their rhythm. I guess it's just how things are done around here, but if we keep this up, our national team is going to be in serious trouble in a few years.😠
