Contact lenses can be a bit of a hurdle during the initial learning curve; it takes some patience to master the application and allow your eyes to adjust. I personally wear soft lenses, and they are so comfortable I rarely even notice them, though I know semi-rigid lenses tend to be a bit more finicky. You also have the extra responsibility of maintenance—cleaning them, keeping track of the case, and so on—but in the grand scheme of things, it really isn't a daunting task.🙂

Most places like LensCrafters carry soft lenses up to -12.00
They definitely have higher prescriptions too, I'm just not sure how the ordering or custom making process works here.

If you were actually at -5, you wouldn't be able to read anything from more than a few inches away...

Can you even see what number is on that bus?

Suppose I were to say that I can manage to read an automobile license plate from a distance of roughly thirty feet; while my vision might be somewhat blurred, the characters remain legible under clear daylight conditions. If you are experiencing the exact same level of visual clarity, I suspect your prescription might not actually be as severe as you fear.

Well, I can't say for certain... but anything starting from -8 and up feels significant to me.
Ah, so there are even higher prescriptions out there...

My ophthalmologist actually suggested that soft lenses are generally preferred for lower prescriptions, so I am merely passing along what I was told.. 😁
