Alright, let me try to cut to the chase here. Something weird is going on with my period this time around. I’m usually on Yasmin for birth control, but I honestly had no idea things would turn out like this—not sure if it's actually because of the pills or what:
Basically, my flow is looking super dark and thick, and there are these strange little black bits mixed in. Does anyone actually know what the hell is happening??

Well, from what you're describing, it sounds like blood clotting... at least, that's how it looks to me at first glance.

It’s nothing to worry about; I deal with this all the time. I was on Dabroston for a while, and back then my periods were shorter and much lighter. Now that I've switched to patches, they look exactly like what you're describing.

Just to be safe, maybe give your primary care physician a call—if they think it's necessary, they can always suggest a different course of treatment or a new medication altogether...

Those "little bits of something" are just blood clots, man. They're totally normal—unless there's like, an insane amount of them... I don't even know why this is being posted on Reddit, but whatever...

That used to happen to me too, though it wasn't on a monthly basis. Honestly, I don't think it's anything to worry about. I never brought it up to Smith.

If you had any actual background in medicine, you'd realize that primary care doctors act as the gatekeepers of the entire American healthcare system—their whole job is to triage who needs specialized care and who can be handled at the local clinic...
So, the protocol is to go to them first for advice instead of bothering a specialist with routine stuff like this!

Look, let me clear this up. My primary care physician isn't some gatekeeper for my gynecologist. You don't need to jump through hoops or get a referral from your GP just to see a specialist, unlike when you're trying to get an appointment with a dermatologist where they have to vet you first! 🙄

Look, if you knew anything at all, you’d realize that OB-GYNs, dentists, and primary care physicians are all part of primary care. Just like you don't run to your family doctor when you have a toothache, you don't go to them for menstrual cycle issues either.

Look, this usually happens during your first pack and it's called breakthrough bleeding. It’s just the window where your body is still trying to adjust to the hormones in the pills. As for why it's happening to you right now? I have no clue. You really need to check in with your OB-GYN, because it could be an infection. Another possibility is that you had some cysts that ruptured. It isn't helpful to sit here playing doctor and guessing. Seriously, go talk to a professional. Don't mess around with this, even though it's most likely nothing serious.
