Champions League or World Cup?

The World Cup, naturally—and that’s assuming our local wooden puppets actually manage to show up to the pitch.

I'll take the Champions League over USA vs. Trinidad and Tobago any day. Watching AC Milan vs. FC Barcelona is just way more fun.
If I haven't made it obvious yet, basically everyone in the Champions League plays decent football. You can't really say the same for most of the teams at the World Cup.

Look, I get it, the Champions League is way more fun to watch, but honestly, it’s just because the clubs have more time to gel and actually learn how to play together. Whether you like it or not, our guy Šimić works way better with Kaká than he does with Srna, and yeah, Kaká plays better with Šimić than he ever did with Ronaldinho. But hey, the World Cup isn't actually that much worse than the Champions League—I'd take a Brazil-Argentina match over a Levski-HSV game any day of the week.

What if they actually set up some kind of competition between leagues? It would be wild. Eto'o wouldn't even have to deal with citizenship issues, and we'd finally see the real gap between South American style and European football (though let's be real, everyone plays the European way now, except maybe a few random teams from Africa or Asia that sneak into the World Cup finals). Maybe a tournament between the big five leagues? It's all just different versions of the World Cup concept.

The players on national teams really need more downtime or longer training camps; if they did that, the World Cup would be a hell of a lot better. I don't want to see football end up like what happened to basketball.

2.) I don't know if it's just me, but I'm pretty sure I'm not the first one in this poll to pick the Champions League. Not sure why all these questions are being aimed solely at me.
My approach to the topic was simple and blunt: I stated my opinion, which is—again—that the football we get in the Champions League is more interesting to me than what we see at the World Cup.
(I'm ignoring the atmosphere here, which is definitely—and again, just my opinion—way crazier at the World Cup.)

The US and Trinidad and Tobago have basically zero chance of meeting up in the World Cup group stage. The US could easily slide through as a runner-up, but there's just no way T&T pulls that off. Look, the football played at the World Cup is the exact same stuff you see in the Champions League. You get the same amount of favorites, the same number of underdogs causing chaos, the same kind of massive upsets—like 🙄 seeing Levski play that aggressive style similar to how Saudi Arabia played in Germany—and the same heavy-hitting matches. It’s all the same game.

I honestly feel like we need to scrap the World Cup immediately—and I mean right now—and just stick to the qualifiers! Don't get me wrong, the UEFA Champions League can still function as it is, since those competitions are basically the lifeblood keeping teams like Steaua, Levski, Spartak, Kyiv, and Roseburg afloat, but we really ought to abolish the group stages, the round of 16, and the quarterfinals entirely. Just leave the UEFA Cup, the EP, the qualifiers, and even that Intertoto mess alone... goodness gracious. 😁
