Tristan and Isolde

So, I caught this movie at the theater last night... and honestly? I walked out feeling pretty disappointed. Maybe I just went in with too much hype, but the whole thing felt underwhelming.
Visually, it’s fine—actually, it looks great—but James Franco’s portrayal of Tristan was just off. He played him like some over-the-top tragic figure, which isn't how I've ever viewed the character. Sophia Myles was decent as Isolde, but Rufus Sewell was his usual reliable self playing Marka...
As for the plot... I don't know. I’ve always seen the bond between Tristan and Isolde as this profound, tragic love—not something overly melodramatic like Romeo and Juliet, but not a fleeting fling like Guinevere and Lancelot either. It’s supposed to be real. But in this film, their relationship feels like a forced Shakespearean drama that revolves mostly around sex rather than actual deep emotion. Maybe it's because the leads just lack any real chemistry, or maybe the whole "falling in love" sequence was just poorly executed. I can't quite put my finger on it. Either way, I wasn't impressed at all.👎

Started watching it but ended up turning it off after about 45 minutes... Honestly, 😢

It isn’t exactly a disaster, per se, but there is this one incredibly unnecessary scene that had the entire theater cracking up when I went to see it. Right in the middle of a sex scene, he just turns to her and asks, "How are you feeling now?" Honestly. 😬

Aha. So there's actual sex involved. Well, that changes things. If they just shared a quick kiss and then left it to the imagination—you know, that classic "guess what happens next" vibe—I would have been totally fine with it. But full-on explicit sex scenes? Yeah, that’s a hard pass for me.

Actually, it isn't a "guess what comes next" type of thing—not at all. And besides, what grade level are we even talking about here?

I’d definitely handle things differently.
It’s not like they wouldn't be into it, though—I know they watch (and even make 😉) all sorts of stuff. It’s just that there are certain things I’d never want to sit through with my students, or even with parents. Honestly, it would just feel incredibly awkward to be watching that kind of content alongside them.

Are you serious? Why on earth would anyone be losing sleep over "Her First Journey" when we're talking about the Middle Ages? It makes zero sense.
Save your money. Seriously, just don't bother buying it.

Honestly, watching that with a bunch of teenagers is pretty awkward. Once they start giggling and making comments about scenes like that, you just want to throw something at them—preferably something heavy. I can only imagine how uncomfortable the professor must feel, too. If it were me, I definitely wouldn't be able to sit through it without feeling incredibly misplaced.
Just take them to see Pirates of the Caribbean 2. 😁 👍

Personally, I thought the movie was stunning 😍. The story is just so good, and I have to hand it to Sophia Myles—she absolutely crushed it. The visuals were gorgeous, and the soundtrack? Incredible. It’s honestly such a beautiful, tragic love story. Though, I did notice people are pretty split on James Franco playing Tristan (who, let's be real, is super hot in this—it's definitely the hair and those sad puppy dog eyes 😍). Some say he was totally wooden and lacked any chemistry with Isolde, while others argue that's the whole point since his character is supposed to be so "dark" and "tragic." I guess you'll just have to decide for yourself 😉

When she was begging him to step up so she wouldn't have to marry that other guy, he just shut it down. He didn't even want to try—then he spends the rest of the time whining once he sees her with him. Classic guy move.🙄

That was a great movie. I have to admit, I ended up watching it right when my PMS was hitting me hard 😬
I spent about half the film crying my eyes out 😬 I guess I just picked the absolute worst timing to watch something like this 😬

I checked this out a few months back. It’s a decent little flick if you just need something to kill an afternoon, but let’s not pretend it’s some cinematic masterpiece... 😁
Besides, that’s exactly what I was expecting when I grabbed it from the local Blockbuster rental.
