Twin Peaks had some truly sick, diabolical scenes that start by making you feel uneasy—and I mean deep, visceral discomfort.
Once you get used to that unease, the actual terror starts to set in.
I still remember that little dwarf speaking in reverse; when they played it back, the effect was straight-up demonic.
And then there's that scene in the Twin Peaks movie where everything happens under a strobe light for about two minutes straight. Absolutely diabolical.
The last time I was actually terrified was watching The Exorcist and The Ring.
I've always been most rattled by films dealing with the paranormal or the occult. I really enjoyed Constantine, but that doesn't quite fit the horror category.

Personally, I think The X-Files is an excellent film.
People go in expecting some high-octane San Francisco thriller or a jump-scare horror flick, but that’s just not what this is.
There are a few tense moments—those alien sound effects were genuinely unsettling—but the core message is that everything happens for a reason. Whether it's a woman's death, a kid's asthma, or a brother's career falling apart because of his wife... it all ties together.
It’s a great movie.
It’s a shame someone decided to burn it.😠

I can't shake this one scene from some mindless horror flick... I can't recall the title, but it’s about some group entering an old asylum and seeing all sorts of crazy stuff... I think there was some bet about who survives to win a million dollars..
Anyway, there's this shot where you see some deranged doctor on a corner monitor, moving his hands incredibly fast while working... It was such an unnatural, terrifying moment..

Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to watch any of these series yet, though I know Twin Peaks is excellent. I am surprised no one mentioned The Twilight Zone—wasn't that a bit more intense? At least that's what I heard...

Evil Dead II — basically the whole movie
Thriller — that music, the zombie animation, and then that sudden jump scare right after everything goes dark in the shadows
2. The mirror scene — Ash Williams trying to compose himself just as his reflection lunges out at him...
3. When the tape recorder starts playing those lines: "I dragged her down the stairs and I buried her, God forgive me, I buried her in the BASEMENT!" And then the witch bursts from the ground... 😱
4. And the first truly terrifying scene ever: that blonde girl pierces through the savage and drags him toward the basement where the witch pops up and slowly pulls him under. Poor guy is screaming, clawing at the wooden floor, desperate to escape while she hauls him by the legs; his head is already in the basement, the witch is pulling him in, and blood starts spraying everywhere along with that choking sound... Absolutely brilliant, wild, and terrifying
5. When Ash Williams hits the tree and faceplants into the mud, looking like he’s going to drown before it turns out to be ....
It’s strange that nobody mentioned IT — that scene with the old lady and the poisoned tea is pure horror...
And one trashy flick Korban — it’s silly because it’s just a standard ultra-violent slasher, but I actually got chills: a severed head in a cereal bowl, a face smashed into a toilet, slicing skin around the eyes with a knife, shoving a head onto deer antlers, a demon behind a white hospital curtain....
Dead and Buried — that shocking moment when the nurse approaches the poor journalist—wrapped up like a mummy because they burned him alive—and jams a poison injection directly into his one remaining eye in a tight close-up
And lastly, some movie I can't recall — an old-school horror, a taxidermied deer head on the wall, eyes rolling back, and then a shotgun emerges from its mouth to blast someone in a crowd and start a rampage.
Clash of the Titans — I was just a kid, so the entire thing was terrifying; Medusa, the Kraken, Cerberus, demons, scorpions...
And one more: The Beastmaster — that scene where the protagonist enters this place and finds a cauldron with a human head inside, only to release a dwarf who starts running as some creature covers itself in its own "skin" and spits acid at him...

Kill Bill Vol. 2—that scene where the Bride is buried alive. I wouldn't say I'm claustrophobic, but man, that part gets to me. When they shut the coffin lid and everything goes pitch black, then you hear that heavy thud of dirt hitting the wood...

Man, I watched this ages ago, but that scene in Poltergeist where that tree is right outside the kid's bedroom window? That part where the little kid says the tree is watching them and knows everything about them... man, that tree absolutely haunted me.

Bad omen—that actor picks up a discarded knife, then a rope snaps from above and a shard of glass drops, slicing his head right off. It hits the storefront window and shatters. I remember watching that gruesome scene when I was just a kid...

Usually, I take any horror flick—or anything even remotely close to it—as a good laugh, so I rarely actually get spooked... but that scene in The Ring where Samara crawls out of the TV? Yeah, that one actually got to me..

Ugh, that’s exactly what I was getting at! Especially with the Japanese version of The Ring—when Samara climbs out of the screen, and especially that close-up shot of her eye... man, give me a break, I still get chills just thinking about it.

The Exorcist—an old lady goes to check on her little one because she’s started acting strange. She thinks everything is fine, turns off the light, leaves the door wide open, and walks away. The camera is positioned in a dark room, watching her walk down the hallway, when suddenly, you catch this demonic silhouette on the left side of the screen lurking in the shadows... chilling...😈 😈 😲 What a damn scene...

I can't really recall many of them, even though there were plenty back in the day.
From what I can remember now, *The Eye* totally caught me off guard with that elevator scene 😱 🙂 and the thing with the chair.
Man, I was absolutely glued to the screen watching that movie 🙂
