Patrick Jones said:lol alright then, I guess everyone else is clearly posting even smaller stuff, so maybe I'll just shrink mine down even more... I mean, I was just pointing out how tiny everyone else's pics look compared to mine, especially since the rules in the OP say they shouldn't be bigger than 480x640, so yeah, fine, I'll scale them down some more if that's what it takes, okay? 🙂
If other people want to post smaller images, that's their business. Small images aren't against the rules; only the oversized ones are. That first image you posted was 480x640 px, which is perfectly acceptable for a post.

I went ahead and cleared those posts out for you.
First off—in three out of your four attempts, you had http://http// right at the beginning. It happened twice instead of just once.
And secondly, all four of those tries pointed to a webpage that *contains* an image, rather than linking directly to the image file itself.
For instance, your last attempt looked like this:

but what it actually needed to be was

which would result in:

I managed to grab the direct link to the image by copying the "Direct" field located to the right of the photo on the webpage http://img92.imageshack.us/i/gumus2ug0.jpg/
Another way is to grab the Forum field under "Embed this Image"—though if you want the best way to handle massive images like this one, you should really just copy the Forum field found under "Embed thumbnails for this image," which is also on the right side of the image. That gives you this:

Just a heads-up: if you go with the second or third method, you just copy the code from its specific box. Don't wrap it in (image) tags, and don't bother using the "Insert Image" tool here on Reddit.

Help... how the hell am I supposed to post a picture? I don't get this URL thing at all... thanks

URL = "link"
Make sure you read through the whole thread from the very beginning—there's a full tutorial waiting for you in the first post.

Does anyone happen to know how to track down the original source link for images on Facebook? I wanted to post this specific photo, but I can't figure out how to find the direct URL:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Gumus/...470926&theater
Edit: figured it out.

I don't think there are any instructions (at least I couldn't find any) on how to post an image from Google Photos if you already have albums hosted there. I think Instagram offers a similar option too.
Maybe this helps someone out. 🤷
Once you open the photo, as a registered user, you'll see a 'Link to this image' link on the right side of the screen. Clicking that opens an 'Embed image' text box.
Below that, select your size and make sure you check the box for the 'Image only (no link)' attribute.
The text generated in the 'Embed image' box after making those selections is the direct link to the image that you can paste onto the forum.
Let's test the theory right now; the image below was posted using the method described above:
