For those of you dealing with this, which specific types of yogurt and cheese—brands included—can I actually eat without issues?
Mu lactose-free yogurt, 1.6% fat, 500g container, made by Dairy Farmers of America. It’s always in stock at Target, $2.75. I've been buying it for years, and the bad news is it's never on sale. They used to carry it at Kroger, but they don't anymore.
When it comes to cheese, stick to hard cheeses like aged cheddar or parmesan. You'll have fewer issues with those than soft ones, like Cheddar. The same goes for frozen pizzas or lasagna—they're usually loaded with cheap Cheddar that acts like a laxative and leaves you bloated and cramping for two days.
If you really crave something with lactose or find yourself at a birthday party, celebration, or wedding where you just can't resist the food, I recommend these tablets. The pack comes with 90 capsules, enough for 90 lactose-heavy meals. They work on the lactose, milk proteins, and fats. Prices vary, but right now they are $29 including shipping to the US.
The instructions say one capsule is equivalent to one glass of milk. In my case, since I'm totally intolerant, it's not quite that much, but it works great for a small amount of cream, milk, or yogurt, or maybe a meal with cream sauce. Same thing applies to a cappuccino, a small pudding, etc.

Hey everyone,
Anyone else dealing with this: I’ve started ramping up my workouts at the gym lately, and I just can't hit my protein goals through food alone (well, at least not without being incredibly boring about it).
The thing is, I can't handle dairy. I'm super lactose intolerant. I tried drinking whey protein, but even half a scoop (!) triggers the exact same symptoms I get from milk. Same goes for cottage cheese. It's that constant stomach upset—that feeling like I'm about to have an emergency bathroom situation. If I eat too much, or if I'm not extremely careful with the rest of my diet, it happens every time. Plus, there's this massive energy crash. It feels like someone literally sucks the life out of me the second my gut starts acting up.
So, whey is out for now. I need to let my gut heal because right now, it's a total disaster. :/
Unfortunately, I react to cottage cheese too. It's slightly less intense than straight milk, but it's still a problem.
Any advice on how to fuel my body? I can't just eat meat three times a day, every single day. Especially with all those hormones in commercial meat nowadays.

Well, you could just drink lactose-free milk.

Hi everyone!
As far as I can tell, lactose has never been an issue for me.
The only thing was that milk always gave me a massive amount of heartburn, so I wasn't really a big fan.
However, I absolutely love cheese, spreads, and all that good stuff.
So, no issues there.
Until a few months ago.
Now, if I eat any kind of cheese, I’m basically sprinting for the restroom.😁>
I don't have a reaction to plain milk.
But cheese—literally everything from fresh varieties and Cheddar to Emmental, or even smoked and aged types like Old Amsterdam... it's all the same.
I asked my doctor at the Mayo Clinic if they could run some tests, but they just told me to stop eating it instead.
How did you guys go about testing? Did you start with a gastroenterologist, and do you find that you react specifically to milk or other dairy products too?
Most people I read about seem to struggle more with milk, whereas I'm fine with it for now.
But anything else dairy-related turns into a total bathroom disaster.😁

Isolate doesn't have lactose in it, provided that's the only thing bothering you.
I deal with the exact same thing, but isolate works fine for me.
For example, check out
If you head over to Walmart, they have fresh cheese, cottage cheese, cream, milk... all the lactose-free stuff. I think their own brand, Free From, is usually right there on the shelves near the vegan section. Plus, you've got all the plant-based options😁 that let you eat🙂 without any worries.

Try making kefir from scratch. The grains consume the lactose, essentially turning the milk into yogurt...

For me, it hits like this: I get incredibly bloated and deal with these sharp cramps in my stomach and pelvic area. I actually managed to fix my entire PMS cycle just by cutting out dairy, though I might try some products with less fermentation later on.
Does anyone know if there are any decent plant-based fitness proteins out there? Thanks
