Tyler Watson3 said:It honestly gives me chills just thinking about dying at thirty. I can't help but wonder what kind of culture could possibly instill such a notion into its people and somehow convince them it’s perfectly "normal."

If you aren't aware of any other way to live, then whatever they feed you becomes your version of reality.
Even in this modern age, there are so many ideas ingrained in our minds that we blindly accept them as absolute truths.

Take religious doctrines, for instance:
It truly baffles me how people still cling to the idea that Sunday is the seventh day, when in fact it is the first.
Furthermore, it seems nobody realizes that according to the Ten Commandments, Saturday should be the day of rest.
One might argue that the Catholic Church operates within a similarly distorted system, where mass rituals are used to impose a collective consciousness, and confessionals serve to pry into one's most private thoughts, essentially forcing an unnecessary sense of guilt upon the individual. It really feels as though the whole structure lacks any genuine connection to the Bible, to God, or even to the Messiah itself.

What I love most about Logan's Run and movies in that vein is that specific vintage sci-fi aesthetic. All those tactile buttons, Moog synthesizers, the set design, the cinematography, the color palette... it feels like early Star Trek.😁 For some strange reason, I feel this wave of nostalgia for these films even though I was born about a decade later.

And let’s be honest: no remake is ever going to capture that magic!

Besides, why can't they just make a decent original FILM instead of churning out another mediocre remake?!
To hell with recycling! What’s been filmed is filmed. You can't just redo it and expect it to surpass the original—unless you're making something spectacularly terrible, like Flash Gordon.😬

...you know, all that quasi-futuristic cellophane clothing and those pulsing crystals making those rhythmic "pew-pew-pew" sounds. 😁

general Martok said:Do you guys remember that 1976 SF flick "Logan's Run" starring Michael York? Man, that movie was—and still is—genuinely great. I’ve sat through it two or three times now. It’s about this young guy and girl trying to escape a futuristic society and head out into the wild just to dodge this horrific law where everyone over 21 is forced to die.

They’re actually filming a remake next year, and Bryan Singer is at the helm—you know, the guy behind "The Usual Suspects," the "X-Men" trilogy, and that upcoming "Superman Returns."

On top of that, like we talked about before, Singer is a massive Star Trek fan and he’s dying to direct Star Trek XI. Some people are whispering that it might happen right after "Logan's Run," but honestly, there hasn't been any official word on that yet.

I'm honestly curious to see if this movie ends up being any good or just another total bust.

Just caught this one today.

Honestly, one of the best pieces of SF ever made. Personally, I actually dug it more than the cult classics like Star Wars.

Back in the eighties and nineties—man, those were the days—they used to run this on loop on NBC. (We’ll probably see it pop up again eventually, right around the time they start airing every single Steven Seagal and Marc Dacascos flick on cable).

If I recall correctly, that’s the one starring Michael York. It’s been quite a long time since I last saw it, but it left a lasting impression as a truly excellent film. Personally, I find it superior to much of modern SF—perhaps second only to 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Oh yeah, absolutely... total classic. It’s easily one of my all-time favorite SF flicks.

Back in the 80s, WABC-TV used to air this one most frequently during the winter break—usually right around lunchtime during those midday programming slots.
It was actually one of those handful of movies—maybe five or six in total—that they seemed to loop constantly on the schedule.
And look, it’s a solid flick; it has a certain charm to it, and I still hold it in pretty fond regard.

It’s been quite a while since I last sat down to watch that movie, but I find myself thinking back to one specific scene pretty often; it's that moment where Logan uses the remote control at the teleporter to pick out which women he might want to spend time with. It honestly seems like such a brilliant idea, I guess.😁

The world in that movie actually makes a weird kind of sense. You just party hard until you hit thirty, and then http://www.youtube.com/watch#playnex...&v=xSnLU9nyFSA

Laser pistols make those same "pew-pew" sounds too. 😁

However, I find that the costumes were undoubtedly the most egregious element of vintage SF cinema. We are talking about neon green leggings, sequined V-neck shirts that plunge to the navel, and football jerseys. And apparently, people were meant to believe they could traverse the cosmos looking like that. Personally, I wouldn't dare step foot outside my own apartment dressed in such a manner, let alone attempt an orbital flight.

A truly great, endlessly charming piece of sci-fi.🙂

It looks like a remake might be on the horizon; IMDb has it listed as being in development, with a target release around 2012.

The old-school version is absolute perfection, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see if this remake actually manages to pull it off. 👍

If they ever do a remake, I really hope they actually stick to the book.

That remake project seems to have hit a bit of a wall, though. It was supposed to be directed by Bryan Singer, but it doesn't look like that's going anywhere. Apparently, Singer has his hands full with X-Men: First Class, a remake of Excalibur, and a film version of Battlestar Galactica (basically BSG 3.0).

An Excalibur remake?... I had no idea... are they really trying to ruin that masterpiece too? Honestly, Hollywood has truly gone to the dogs.

That’s just not how the studio system works...

A: Let's make a movie.
B: About what?
A: Let's just grab a classic and remake it.
B: Uhm... I don't know.
A: Of course you do! What's the Best movie of All time?
B: Uhmmm... Citizen Kane?
A: Exactly. Let's do Citizen Kane 2.
B: But... Kane is dead.
A: CLONING, BABY!!!!!!!!!

I've been dying to catch this one for ages. If the weather holds up and we don't get rained out, I'm heading to the Hollywood Bowl tonight for a screening during South by Southwest.

Really hoping it lives up to the hype. 😁
