So, I just watched this (an absolutely terrible bootleg I found online). First off, πŸ™‚ downloading stuff from the internetβ€”ugh, no way. This is the kind of thing you gotta see in a theater. The movie is... well... basically a Tim Burton take on a Roald Dahl book... and honestly, there's not much else to say about it.

It’s super cute but has this incredibly bizarre vibe, weird plot, and tons of dialogue. Visually? It's stunning. Johnny Depp totally gives off Michael Jackson vibes (minus the creepy stuff) and his Neverland era. Actually, he kind of reminds me of that white angel from *City Angels*.

Long story short, I'm just waiting for it to hit theaters so I can watch it on a massive screen like a civilized human being, instead of this creepy low-quality rip that keeps skipping, sounds like it was recorded into a bucket, and is missing half the scenes because someone filmed their TV! You literally see them whipping a cow in the "whipped cream room," one little girl turns into a blueberry (she turns blue and gets all round, then they drag her to the juicing room where they "squeeze her like a prune" until she's blue and floppy like rubber but back to normal size), and those trained squirrels are pure insanity (just diabolical little things that go nuts and toss a kid into the trash), etc. The whole movie is just wild. The kids are brilliantly done, especially that spoiled rich girl and the chubby German guy. Honestly, the chubby guy is better. Such a bummer that the first kid gets knocked out (he almost drowns in the chocolate river before getting sucked up by some pipe and whisked away to who-knows-where). So far this year, we've had two genius, weird-as-hell movies come out: Sin City and Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. Oh, and yeah, I am obsessed with bad movie logic. Like, when you film someone with a camera, they look like they're only 10cm tall on TV, so that's why when Wonka invents a teleporter through the TV, he has to send a giant piece of chocolate so it comes out looking a normal size, right? Every other sentence is something like that.

Just stepped out of the theaterβ€”this is hands down the BEST Burton film yet, and honestly, Depp is just adorable 😍

Every other sentence is some ridiculous thing like that.

But that logic actually comes straight from the book anyway 😍

I drifted off during the movie again. Maybe it was that sense of dΓ©jΓ  vu? I know the Dahl enthusiasts will point out how the songs actually use lines from the bookβ€”unlike that first versionβ€”and claim the sets were modeled directly after the original illustrations. But despite all that attention to detail, the film just felt like some watered-down Burton film rather than a true adaptation.
They hired the wrong person for this project. They should have brought in Wes Anderson; not just for the set design, but to inject some actual soul into the acting.

By the way, is it just me, or do Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter look like they were separated at birth?

I honestly have no idea how anyone could actually drift off while watching that movie πŸ™„ πŸ™„ πŸ™„

I’m probably the only person out there who actually had nightmares about Wonka and the Oompa-Loompasβ€”at least based on how they looked in the movieβ€”so I'm really hoping this version feels a bit different from the last one.πŸ™‚

And yeah, Marrakesh... honestly, being a pirate is probably Depp's best role.πŸ‘

After being let down by Tim Burton’s Take on Attack on Mars and Planet of the Apes, I have to admit this movie brings him right back to his glory days...

Pure genius! πŸ‘

There are two awkward scenesβ€”both involving some clunky dialogueβ€”but everything else is just charming...

This might actually be Johnny Depp's best performance yet...

Bottom line: you've got to see it! πŸ™‚

😁 I finally sat down and watched the movie last night... and wow, it was just incredible! Honestly, I can't stop humming that "Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka..." tune, it's stuck in my head completely πŸ™‚ , and those squirrels? Absolutely iconic. I also thought the way they handled the Wonka character was so interesting; thanks to Johnny Depp, he comes across as this wonderfully morbid figure, almost giving off some serious Michael Jackson vibes 😁

Watched it last week... It's good. I wouldn't say it has that Depp or Michael Jackson vibe... Didn't pick up on any weird creepy undertones either. Before all that, it's just perfectly sarcastic... some little spoiled brat... I actually dig the morbid way they eliminate people.

sorry....The Oompa-Loompas are just boring! They were the only part that didn't really click for me.

A friend of mine actually drifted off too, though she’s basically a professional sleeper who can pass out during anything!😬

As for me, I couldn't stop grinning from ear to ear the entire time I was watching!😍

I wouldn't go so far as to say Depp is giving off Michael Jackson vibes... I didn't really catch any of those creepy undertones, you know?! To me, he just seems perfectly sarcastic... like this little, spoiled brat... honestly though, I'm kind of loving that dark, morbid way they handle the eliminations.

Oh, noooo, it's not that! It’s just that the way Depp was smiling and using that higher pitch in his voice totally reminded me of the King of Pop himself!πŸ™‚

Plus, I guess the Wonka character feels pretty morbid because of Deppβ€”it's got a bit of a Michael Jackson vibe to it, maybe 😁 .

Well, if you didn't fall asleep during the movie, then it must actually be good πŸ‘
.

I can't wait to finally see it 😎

Yeah... I bet that porcelain tooth played a part in messing up his tone, too...

I am absolutely thrilled 😍 (though I have never actually laid eyes on or read the book)
and I'm currently hunting down the soundtrack 😬

The film really hits all the right notes; visually, it’s stunning. Deep Roy is phenomenalβ€”I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of his work generally, but those dialogues between him and the kids πŸ™ were something else, and the squirrels are a whole different story altogether 🀣. Even the kids were impressive; they act so well, especially that little girl with the gum who carries herself like such a rebel, and that stout kid tooβ€”kudos to them. There's a genuine cinematic purpose here; it's packed with funny moments, and that Willy Wonka song is just πŸ™‚

The guy playing one of the Oompa-Loompas was just so perfectly awkward... and then you get that look when Wonka says, "Doris," and he just gives that tiny little nod, hahahaha! And honestly, in real life, his name being Deep Roy makes it even better 😁

I have to be honest, the soundtrack isn't exactly great. Honestly, the only decent parts are those little Oompa-Loompas songs; everything else just feels like Danny's recycling his own work from previous Burton films...

Personally, I’m just looking for that "Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka, the candy man who... something something something, Willy Wonka, la la la la laaaa..."
I have it anywhere? 😬
