😢I've been searching for this track but I could only find that Oompa-Loompas song, and the problem is I honestly have no idea what this specific one is actually called.

Just finished watching it myself.

As a massive fan of the book, I mostly viewed the movie through the lens of the original text. Some parts rubbed me the wrong way, mainly because my mental image of Wonka was so different...

But if I’m being objective, the film is quite charming.

The Oompa-Loompas are spot on, the squirrels were great, and the production design was absolutely stunning 🙂 Charlie Bucket and his grandfather were excellent too. Honestly, almost every character besides Depp himself worked perfectly... He was fine, but I would have played it differently... I mean, Wonka IS a mad scientist (they got that part right), just not "deranged." More like sympathetically eccentric, with a slightly warped view of reality.

I did miss some of those brilliant details from the book—things you probably can't fit into a movie, like square candies being round, flavored wallpaper, or sweets that stick to your teeth 🙂 All of that made Wonka feel more like an eccentric, kind-hearted, and incredibly imaginative soul to me...

The reviews have been great so far, and the trailer looks promising. The production design is particularly stunning—it really captures that vibe from the live-action version of "The Nightmare Before Christmas."

Supposedly, this movie isn't much like its predecessor (the screenwriter mentioned he didn't even watch Wilder's version, which I thought was pretty decent 😉). Instead, he drew direct inspiration from Dahl's book, along with some typical Hollywood tweaks. This makes the result feel almost like a kid's horror movie, which stays true to the source material. Add Tim Burton to the mix, and you've got a winning combo. 🙂

I also heard (🙂) that Johnny Depp's performance is brilliant. He apparently played Willy Wonka as a blend of Howard Hughes and a 70s glam rock star. 😁 🙏

I haven't seen it yet. Honestly, it doesn't look "promising" to me. It feels like one of those movies tailor-made just to boost a big star's ego... 🙄 And those are always disasters. Just vanity projects made to feed some celebrity's ego.

Just watched it, and honestly, I thought it was pretty great.

As soon as I saw the snow at the start, I just knew the movie was going to be good. I mean, Tim Burton + fluffy little snowflakes... that’s pretty much a winning combination, I guess. 😁Honestly, everything about the movie feels pretty great. You’ve got Elfman's score—which, I guess, kind of brings back those old Batman vibes—and then there's the set design, Burton's wild directing style, and that whole twisted script. Ever since I watched Return of Batman, I found myself wondering when Tim would finally dive into a musical. That surreal, playful energy just seems to fit him perfectly, I mean, this is probably the closest he's ever come to the genre, and he really nailed it.

I guess Johnny Depp's acting always kind of reminded me of how Carrey used to imitate Andy Kaufman—you know, like that whole vibe with the character Latko. I was actually wondering myself what it would’ve been like if they had gone with him for the lead role instead. Maybe that dark, morbid humor would have landed a bit better with Carrey's facial expressions, or maybe I don't know, maybe I just still have Count Olaf stuck in my head. 😁 )

Christopher Lee was just legendary in that movie. I guess he kind of reminded me of Vincent Price—though maybe that was actually intentional on his part? Just a thought.

Today I picked Cinderella Man instead of Willy Wonka, and now that I'm reading all your comments, I'm starting to think I might have made a mistake.

I mean, I am pretty much obsessed with chocolate 🙂 so I figured watching a movie about chocolate (especially one starring Depp 🙂) would be total torture if I couldn't eat some while watching.

I took my son (who's 5 and a half) to see it, and we were both totally floored. We'd actually already read the book together, so I didn't have to sit there translating everything or explaining the plot as we went. To be honest, I had a slightly different vision for Willy Wonka in my head—I pictured him as this older guy, maybe a kind-hearted eccentric type—but Johnny Depp brings this weird, bizarre dimension to the role that I wasn't expecting. I also imagined the Oompa-Loompas differently, but the fact that this one guy plays all of them? That was honestly such a killer move. It worked so well for me.

I just finished watching the movie myself. It was absolutely fantastic!
Johnny Depp—honestly, I think he’s the most perfect choice for that role—delivered an incredible performance. I heard that Robin Williams, Steve Martin Marilyn Manson, and even someone like Marilyn Manson were considered during auditions, but in my opinion, Johnny is the superior pick. He strikes that exact balance of being hilarious yet somewhat darkly bizarre.
It’s a fairy tale at its core, but really, anyone can enjoy it!

I have a real soft spot for those Burtonesque films—they’re just so visually pleasing—and since Depp is involved, I simply can't be disappointed... I definitely want 😁

It's actually a solid film for kids, too—it teaches them the difference between right and wrong, and how being greedy is a losing game in any sense of the word (though, frankly, a lot of adults could probably use that lesson 😁 ).

I actually managed to snag an invite to the gala premiere—since my buddy couldn't make it—so we basically gorged ourselves on chocolate like there was no tomorrow. The hostesses were literally ushering us in, and to top it off, we even scored a goody bag stuffed with even more chocolate...

The movie is fantastic; I thought the book was brilliant too, but I honestly think they did a stellar job with the adaptation. Even those flashbacks involving Wonka's father (which weren't in the book) actually fit the flow quite nicely...

I caught it this past Saturday—the movie is so incredible that I’m struggling to find the right words to do it justice... I have a feeling I'll be revisiting it at least a dozen more times.

First off, Johnny Depp is a genius—absolute mastery, just fantastic—and I really hope he finally gets an Oscar for this.

But man, the movie itself is a different story. I could never get into that book; honestly, I thought it was pretty terrible👎 👎 so I went in fully expecting the film to be a total disaster. The first half? Just depressing. I was seriously disappointed. The way they describe Charlie's life—it felt rushed in the book and even worse in the movie. And the grandfather? Just unappealing. But once they actually step into the factory, things take a massive turn for the better—it's like Burton just loses his mind in the best way possible.👋 I was laughing the whole time. The songs are pretty ridiculous, though.👎

In the end, I'm glad because most of what I hated about the film is actually due to the book rather than Burton himself. Still, on the scale of Burton films, this one sits right at the bottom for me.

I honestly can't wrap my head around why I didn't enjoy it more. I mean, the book was incredible, I’m a huge fan of Burton's style, I love Johnny Depp, and I have a massive soft spot for chocolate 😬 ... how could it possibly have turned out bad? 😉

To be fair, there's plenty to praise—the production design, the cast, the direction... everything was solid. Actually, pretty much everything except for those songs. They just felt off to me. Both the musical numbers and the choreography with the Oompa-Loompas were just... meh. I guess the last two (both the songs and the dancing) were slightly better, but still...

And then there's that "quote" from 2001: A Space Odyssey 🤣

If you haven't seen it yet, you should definitely give it a watch 🙂

Also, let's be real—Johnny is way too sugary-sweet in this 😍

I have to say, I wasn't particularly impressed by this film.

To my mind, the plot felt far too vague, and the characters were essentially cardboard cutouts. Perhaps that's just my subjective take, but I walked away with much stronger memories of the original movie.

What bothered me most, however, was the complete lack of that signature Burtonesque style. It lacks that essential Gothic edge; while the factory might touch on it slightly, the film itself isn't dark at all. Instead, it feels like a bright, juvenile production—something you'd expect from Disney.

All things considered, it isn't a total disaster, but I certainly expected much more from this...
