Paramount Pictures (1987)

I just finished rewatching this movie, and honestly, I’m still kind of reeling from it even though I’ve seen it before. It was absolutely incredible—and don't even get me started on the soundtrack, because it's just unreal... 😍
Whenever I think about Patrick Swayze, I just feel like 🙂

What do you guys think?

I don't really care. I just watched it again. When that final dance scene hit, I cranked the volume all the way up and sang along. I guess what can you do when you love that song? Even if the rest of the movie feels a bit cliché and Patrick Swayze is just... well, whatever. That's exactly why it works for me. 😬

My sister basically had her brain turned to mush by that movie when I was just a kid. It was a regular ritual in our house:

Sister (pre-teen years): "Ugh, I want to watch something on video!"
Me (tiny toddler): "No!"
Her giggly friends from down the street: "Yaaaaay, what are we gonna watch?"
Me: "No!"
Sister: "Let's watch... DIRTY DANCING!"
Friends: "YEEEEEEESSSSSS!!!"
Me: "FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME?! FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!"
Sister and friends: "What?"
Me: "Error... No?"

Anyway, I ended up knowing every single damn song from that soundtrack by heart. If my sister and her friends didn't watch that movie at least twenty times that summer, they never did. It was the ultimate freaking chick flick. And since I was just a little kid who couldn't even read yet, I didn't exactly have anything better to do.

When I saw it on TV this afternoon and my sister started screaming, "Glee! Oh my god, I love this movie!" the flashbacks hit me instantly.

I’d dance too, Patrick Swayze. BUT NOT TO YOUR BEAT!

Oh my god, that movie is such a classic. It was basically the anthem for every 11-year-old girl when it hit theaters here. Honestly, it was the first movie where the romance actually stuck with me—I mean, you absolutely HAD to be crushing on Paterson and that hair of his 😱 I used to know every single dance move by heart (and honestly, they still hold up pretty well even 20 years later), though the soundtrack is just pure, cheesy magic...

It’s just one of those movies, you know? That doesn't mean I haven't watched it (like, the 179th time) just this afternoon. It's stronger than my willpower at this point. It just takes me right back to being a kid...

Huh. Gotta admit, I finally sat down and watched the whole movie from start to finish today. 🙂

I’ve honestly never sat down to watch any of them... but I’ve been wanting to. I already made plans with my girls for a movie night—we're doing a marathon of Dirty Dancing, Grease, and Flashdance.
And obviously, there will be piles of junk food.
Long live ladies' nights... 😁

... I honestly lost count of how many times I've sat through this movie...

I actually went looking up some photos of Jennifer Grey... and man, she looks almost unrecognizable😲 compared to that adorable little thing from back in '87,
while Paterson basically looks exactly the same... just twenty years older.😉

I never really had a crush on Paterson. But NKOTB... I guess Joe was always my favorite. 😁

Great cast and killer soundtrack... It's a damn shame the actual movie was such a mess.😛

The movie is solid—no doubt about it. But honestly? You should probably check out Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights too... it’s just as good.

Forget about the looks—I’ll be the first to admit he isn't exactly a Hollywood heartthrob—but man, this movie is incredible... it actually won an Oscar!

What did they even win Oscars for?
I don't know, maybe. When I was a kid watching Paramount Pictures, it never really stood out to me. But rewatching it this afternoon, I guess it wasn't half bad. It looks a bit like a frog, but the role is decent and she has nice hands 🙂
