What would an ideal domestic lineup in a 4-4-2 look like? Because let's face it—nobody around here actually pulls it off successfully.

Seattle? They run a 4-4-2, sometimes a 4-3-3. It's just not really that kind of philosophy.

We’re seeing the 4-3-3 more often lately—it feels like our standard setup is always 3-5-2, yet someone is constantly itching to switch things up to a European-style 4-4-2. If I recall correctly, Luka Bonačić was the first one over at the Los Angeles Dodgers to complain about trying to act all "European" with a 4-4-2, only to get absolutely shredded on the counterattack.

Look, it's not set in stone. I was just throwing it out there as an example. 😉

Honestly, I think this is the worst thread we've had all month.

Jonathan Clark12 said:I honestly think this is the absolute worst thread of the month—hands down.

Instead of just sitting there tearing everything apart, you could have actually shared your own top picks—I guess that would have been more helpful. 🙂

Fine, I'll just do it for you myself:

America:

It doesn't even matter—not when Milan isn't even in the picture.

Foreign:

The best player: Andriy Shevchenko
The best club: AC Milan
The absolute best coach? I mean, honestly... Carlo Ancelotti
The best match: AC Milan — anyone?
The absolute best goal: Any kind of Zoran Milanović...
My ideal starting 11 (4-4-2): Dida; Cafu, Jaap Stam, Alessandro Nesta, Paolo Maldini; Gennaro Gattuso, Andrea Pirlo, Clarence Seedorf, Kaká; Hernán Crespo, Andriy Shevchenko.

Fine, I suppose I'll just do that for you.

America:

It hardly matters, I suppose, since AC Milan isn't even in the picture.

Foreign:

The greatest player? I suppose that’s entirely subjective, though I doubt there's a consensus to be found. Andriy Shevchenko.
The best club: I guess. AC Milan.
The best coach? I suppose that's entirely subjective, though I doubt there's a consensus to be found. Carlo Ancelotti. I suppose he's doing his thing, though one wonders how much longer it can actually last.
Perhaps the best match: AC Milan—anyone?
Perhaps the greatest goal: I suppose any Zoran Milanović would be just as much of a headache.
My ideal starting eleven (4-4-2), I suppose: Dida; Cafu, Jaap Stam, Alessandro Nesta, Paolo Maldini; Gennaro Gattuso, Andrea Pirlo, Clarence Seedorf, Kaká; Hernán Crespo, Andriy Shevchenko.

I suppose you managed to pick the standout player from that lineup of Maldini, Nest, Seedorf, and Shevchenko. Maybe you actually got lucky. ☕ 👋

The perfect 11 (4-4-2): Dida; Cafu, Jaap Stam, Alessandro Nesta, Paolo Maldini; Gennaro Gattuso, Andrea Pirlo, Clarence Seedorf, Kaká; Hernán Crespo, Andriy Shevchenko.

You aren't as dim as you look at first glance. You hit on everything else, but shouldn't you have given the coaching situation some thought?

Where’s Ambrosini at? And what are Shevchenko and Crespo even doing playing together in this lineup?😁

feralbison62 said:Wait, where was Massimo Ambrosini? And what on earth are Shevchenko and Hernán Crespo doing together in the starting eleven?😁

Look, that was actually the most solid formation we could have used—the fact that you almost never see them all playing together at once is just a whole different issue entirely.😁
