The life and work of Mel Gibson

I was watching one of his older flicks yesterday—found it on DVD. He plays this guy with some mental limitations who gets attached to a middle-aged woman. Honestly, his performance was pretty spot on.
Anyway, what’s the consensus on Mel Gibson as an actor? Personally, I think he’s top-tier. From Mad Max and the ship Bounty to his work in Deadly Weapon and Braveheart, it feels like he doesn't have a single weak role. You can tell he really pours himself into every single part.

Ah, a true local patriot! It’s a mistake to assume Mel Gibson is Australian—he’s actually American. He was born in the States, but his parents ended up fleeing to Australia—mostly because things were getting pretty intense during the Vietnam era, and they wanted to avoid the draft. His mother was American, though.

All in all, if Arnold can pull off being Governor, this guy might just make it to the White House—knock me dead!

I don't know, I view Mel Gibson somewhat like a sea cucumber. Or maybe a mussel. Is he actually an actor? And a director?

I don't really see him as anything special...

I actually thought Mel was pretty likable until I caught him speaking in that intensely conservative, ultra-religious tone... honestly, it gave me the chills.

I can't stand him. It’s just his pathetic, over-the-top facial expressions—that constant, exaggerated grimacing like he's in physical agony (you know, the whole "Please, bring me back my boy!" routine). Watching his entire face twitch from such forced, heavy-handed emotion is honestly exhausting to watch.

Insane Max is a total legend, and while Mel is a funny enough guy—not a bad actor by any means—let's be honest, the man has clearly lost his marbles.

Mel Gibson is easily the most well-rounded actor out there compared to any of today's big names. I mean, just look at his range. There’s pretty much no genre he hasn't absolutely crushed.

I honestly don't get why steelstag4 is giving him grief just because "the guy was twitching and shaking too much in the movie." Like, seriously? How much am I supposed to shake if my own son just died because of a mistake I made? (At least, that's what the character thinks in that moment). If you actually lost a child because of your own fault, would you really just sit there acting all calm and dignified without shedding a single tear?! I doubt it. Is there anything worse than losing a kid? Maybe. But losing a son because it was your own damn fault? That's the absolute worst. Just try to put yourself in those shoes for a second. I might have even ended it all if I were in his position. (I don't mean Mel Gibson himself, obviously, but the character he was playing). So, you really don't have any right to judge Gibson for "overacting" the shaking. If anything, he nailed it. You'll probably get that when you're a little older...

As for me, my take on Mel Gibson is simple: regardless of the genre, if I see his name on a movie, I'm watching it. Period. Because I know it's going to be a great film!!!

I get the whole situation, really. It’s just that in that moment, I didn't see pain, fear, or even genuine anger on his face... I just saw pure melodrama. He felt fake, and honestly, he was unconvincing.

Anyway, I'm heading out. If you all want to worship at the altar of Mel, fine; I won't stick around to ruin the vibe of this thread. 🙂

I really respect the guy—he’s got the guts to stick to his guns and do things his way. He isn't afraid to take on Hollywood, even if it means reaching into his own pocket to fund a project himself.👍

Let’s be real, most people only associate Mel Gibson with Braveheart and Patriot... Just look at his run with Weapon 1,2,3,4 and Mad Max 1,2,3... then there's Air America... and "Forever Young"... but you guys all went and wasted your time on commercial junk like Patriot...

I’ve always liked Mel, though maybe I’m just being nostalgic. Still, you have to hand it to him—the guy's got guts. Not everyone would risk that much cash on a project like this.

And honestly, he ended up making a way better film because of it...😁
