Remember that scene where she's at the bar? "Honey, I'm smoking, drinking, fucking Santa..." And she goes, "Prove it!" Then you get that screeching sound in the car under the streetlamp—"Fuck-me-Santa, Fuck-me-Santa, Fuck-Meent!!!" 😁 Classic.

Haaaaa!😁 I wasn't planning on watching "fucking Sana," but fine, I guess I'll give it a shot.👍 😁

But since I went to Cinemark eating cheese tacos, I actually felt a bit sick when they showed that kid with the dried-up nostrils...🙂 😁

Anyway, Thornton has always been my favorite, and I think he’s the perfect fit for a lead role like this (which hasn't really happened before 😁)

Did you know they originally offered the part to Larry David? Even Bill Murray was almost on board before he ultimately decided on Lost in Translation.

Who even is Larry David? 🙂
I've had about enough of Bill Murray... honestly, he just can't pull off playing such an unapologetically terrible Santa Claus quite like Thornton can.🙂

Larry David is the guy who wrote Seinfeld, and now he has his own show called Curb Your Enthusiasm...

In my opinion, this was the best part of the movie...

Willie Has Just passed out ] gin : look here, get him out of here and I'll handle things with wiredotter79. Tell him it was just food poisoning or something...

Marcus: What do you mean, get him outta here?

Willie Has Just passed out ] gin : look here... Get him to the car...

Marcus: In case you didn't notice, I'm a motherfucking dwarf. Unless you have a forklift nearby, maybe you should just lend a hand...

Willie Has Just passed out ] gin : look here. Typical. Always looking for an edge. Everyone wants their special accommodations just because they're struggling. It's always the same story...

Marcus: Special treatment? I'm 3-foot-fucking-tall you Asshole! It's just basic physics. Go ahead, draw me a sketch showing how I'm supposed to get him to the car...

Willie Has Just passed out ] gin : look here Bitch, Bitch, Bitch!

Marcus: Sketch it out, you total idiot. Fucking Leonardo da Vinci.

Seriously smart humor. Finally, something that isn't just some typical Hollywood Production

"Intelligent humor," my ass... 😁
I agree it isn't your typical American style of comedy, but it’s definitely not some raw, edgy wit or high-brow intelligence either...
The movie has its bright spots, but honestly, anyone could see this was just an over-commercialized product trying too hard to be "Bad"...

If this hadn't been an American production, that girl would have had a much harder time...
It was the final film for John Ritter...
Typical American messaging—you fight, you help some guy, and only then does anyone bother helping you...
What’s unusual is that even the Black characters are portrayed as "slightly negative"—and it isn't just the corrupt department store security chief...
Thornton really seemed comfortable in the skin of this "hero"...
There was one scene where I actually teared up—though, admittedly, not from laughing...
Why do I get the feeling that every single Hollywood Production follows the exact same formula?

I mean, I get it—it’s definitely not your typical American sense of humor, but let's be real... it’s still miles away from being actually edgy or clever, right?
The movie has its moments, sure—but honestly, even someone with zero vision could see it’s just a super over-commercialized attempt at being "bad."

I can get behind that. Honestly, I wasn't exactly expecting to sit in a Cinemark theater watching Bad Santa assault a teenager or some crap—so the lack of edgy stuff didn't really ruin the vibe for me.

I actually gave up halfway through... and look, I’m practically a masochist when it comes to forcing myself to sit through movies I absolutely can't stand. Though, to be fair to my own soul, this was my third dud in a row, so that probably played a part too. 😬
I mean, seriously, how do you stretch a single joke out over two whole hours? It felt like some watered-down, PG version of Krusty the Clown designed specifically for the multiplexes. 🙄

* - okay, fine... Krusty is a clown, whereas here we're dealing with Santa Claus.

p.s. There is a much better film with a similar vibe (again, a clown for kids), "Death to Smoochy" (featuring Robin Williams in one of his absolute best roles!)

The movie really saves Billy Bob, but honestly, I was cracking up the whole time regardless.
(It felt a bit like Johnny English to me—you know, those movies people call trash, but I thought they were genius because I spent ninety minutes laughing my head off) ...

There are some brilliant lines in there, but obviously, Bad Santa is bad, so if you were expecting anything else—well, you shouldn't have.

So, for me, the movie was great. That’s why we were playing with balloons in the back row, and that’s why this really cute guy ended up sitting right next to me in my favorite seat.

Where are you guys even going with this?😉

Only now?
Well, Bob Thornton is basically that guy who struggled for years as a playwright and screenwriter—just trying to break through—only to finally land a massive opportunity in his prime as an actor in something like “Sling Blade”...

I’m not sure if everyone experiences this, but I’ve just always actively avoided Thornton. I didn't like him, plain and simple. 🙂
You know that feeling when you find an actor unappealing for no particular reason? You can acknowledge their movies are solid and recognize they’re a talented performer, yet you still just can't stand them.
I took that to a whole new level. I don't think there's a single film of his I haven't skipped, even though I found him grating and decided I wouldn't like his movies before I even saw them. 🙂

I guess I've got a lot of catching up to do. 🙂

Honestly, one of the best American comedies from the last decade... if you aren't counting the Woody Allen stuff.
B.B. is just brilliant. And that little chubby guy too. So witty... really funny.
Plus—and I really have to give credit where it's due—even though there are like ten or more hilarious bits scattered throughout, the movie actually works as a whole. That's such a rare thing to find in American comedies.
I first really noticed Zwigoff after seeing the amazing "Ghost World," and man, I am just so incredibly happy that the American directing scene has gained such a significant new name... a huge addition to the talent pool.
While waiting for the next Terry Zwigoff project, regarding Bad Santa, I’d say—as Homer Simpson would put it—nine thumbs up.👍 x 9

This movie absolutely kicks ass, whether you consider it mainstream or not. I’m a huge fan of films like this—it’s about time we got a character who actually talks like a real person, dropping "fuck," "bitch," and whatever else comes to mind... plus, the kid is just a total brat, as much as he can be.🙂

Honestly, one of the better flicks from last year. A bit of a shame it wasn't a little raunchier—felt like it could've used a slightly edgier finish—but still. Still, alongside School of Rock, my favorite comedy from last year has gotta be that one with Thornton. He’s just the king of cynics; I don't think anyone else could have pulled off that role quite like him.

dustyscout53 said:Did you guys catch that Christmas flick? Billy Bob Thornton as Santa Claus, some chubby kid being a chubby kid? It was the first comedy that actually killed me after Zoolander.

I didn't find it funny at all!
Sure, there are a few laughs, but for the most part, it’s a deeply depressing piece of work. That suicide attempt scene is heavy, man. 😢 😳

All in all—it's not really a Christmas movie. It's just sad and bleak...

In America, they seem to be just discovering how much they enjoy certain gritty, cynical behaviors: unfortunately, they're treating it like "entertainment" on the big screen.
I actually thought you might have enjoyed it, to be honest.
🙄 😁
Is the movie similar to 'The Big Lebowski'?
😕

anyway,
this movie could easily be called North American Santa

What kind of psycho would actually sit through that?
I don't get it—
