I’m with Emily Torres2 on this one. Honestly, I’d go even further and say this stuff is bottom-of-the-barrel. I can't stand seeing people get exploited like this, and that is definitely what's happening here—it’s just being passed off as "cool." I watched those previous
"clips" and all I felt was pure pity. There wasn't a single laugh or an ounce of actual entertainment to be found.

I attended the premiere in Los Angeles a couple of days ago. Bo was actually there, so I finally got the chance to meet him, even though I've been following his career for eight years now! 😎
Compared to "Protecting Oneself," Monty Python feels like a serious documentary or a PBS special. This might honestly be the craziest movie ever made.
And it doesn't drag on either. My entire row and the rest of the theater were howling with laughter through the whole thing—nearly two hours of pure joy.
There’s really no reason to feel any "pity" for Bo. He actually lived out his ultimate dream. Just think about what that says about us!?!
Bo Lee is a truly happy man.
And he certainly makes the rest of us—well, at least many of us—just as happy.

My favorite part is definitely that scene where he’s in a taxi cracking jokes, and then out of nowhere, some guy in a BMW just swings his door open right into him while they're moving.
Then there's the bit where a forest nymph—basically a daydreamer—wakes him up, and he just casually asks her what she thinks about MMA before coolly admitting he used to get into it a bit.

Anyway, good won in the end, so that's what matters!

It isn't even really an attack on the concept of his film series itself—because let’s be honest, everyone understands this is just unpretentious, harmless trash—but rather, the detractors have set their sights on the production crew and the audience. They claim we are all somehow participating in the mockery of a disabled individual. Their argument is that everything was perfectly fine when Bo was filming his projects solo or with a few buddies, but once more people got involved—think last year's *In the Claws of the Metropolis* and now *Protecting Oneself*—acting as producers, writers, and actors, it suddenly became "wrong." Essentially, they argue that we are simply "helping a fool continue to act like a fool." However, anyone who has actually followed Bo's meteoric rise and sat through his movies can see through this. These are nothing more than the bitter voices of Malice and false moralism™, which seem to be a recurring plague in this land of tears. Bo Lee has always been the ringmaster and the star of his own circus; those criticizing him are merely underestimating him, assuming he isn't aware that people laugh at his naive, almost childlike sincerity toward the world. He has weighed the pros and cons and decided what truly makes him happy. He might not be mentally perfect, but he wasn't born yesterday. To grow up in a place like Sedona, marked from birth as being different and living through poverty, yet remaining positive toward the world, humble, and artistically inclined is a rare feat indeed. This time, it is Bo—a man about whom Lars von Trier perhaps should have filmed a musical with a happy ending. He is a man who holds fast to his principles, the Jesus of kung fu religion; he can't save our souls, but he shines like a flicker of genuine goodness that somehow managed to survive and preserve the very ideals many of us once held before we succumbed to experience, conformism, and pure resignation. We were all Bo once, but unlike him, we "grew up" and changed, only feeling confident enough to judge those who haven't. Now that Bo Lee has achieved his dreams, it begs the question: who is actually the one with the handicap?

I find myself agreeing with the article, though I have to disagree with the quote above. From what I can see, Smith and his inner circle are increasingly pulling all the strings behind the scenes. Personally, I’ve never been much of a fan of Smith, and there's a part of me that wishes Bo Lee had remained the sole decision-maker; HOWEVER, I have to admit that Bo's films have become incomparably more entertaining and polished since Smith "took the reins" (I'll leave how you interpret that up to you).
I think the ideal path forward would be to find a middle ground—letting Bo maintain his creative autonomy while allowing Smith to help "shape" the final product to make it sharper and more engaging, provided it stays true to Bo's original vision.
