I actually found his constant mockery quite amusing: those pathetic stereotypes about Black people... it’s such a classic cinematic trope, though I have to say, the way they handled all that nonsense in Chasing Amy was actually pretty brilliant. They fleshed out the dialogue so well—it’s essentially the art of empty chatter that somehow manages to transcend itself.

I watched Dogma exactly once, and looking back at the big picture, all I can say is it’s a terrible movie—and honestly, Kevin Smith is one of those guys I’d describe as "prejudiced garbage." Dogma is your typical American "I'm not a teenager but I totally am" comedy, designed for group mocking and mindless giggling... by using spoofs of Catholic religion to try and play at being Bergman's The Seventh Seal, Kevin Smith fails completely with this project, and quite possibly with his others too. Trying to scoff at Hollywood Blockbusters and bad acting while using Ben Affleck as his go-to inspiration for a "good actor" wasn't exactly a brilliant move either. Kevin Smith is, if you ask me, the male version of Roseanne...

Dogma has officially reached cult status, and honestly, it remains one of the most controversial movies ever made...
It’s the kind of film that pushes every boundary and shatters every preconceived notion you might have. Is it a perfect masterpiece? Perhaps not. But calling it "good" feels like a massive understatement...it's so much more than that.🙏

It’s good—Rickman is incredible as usual, honestly, the guy can pull off just about anything with such effortless style. And I actually love that God is portrayed as a woman here. That was a great touch. Plus, seeing Scorsese flying through the sky... hehehehehe🙂

I watched it ages ago, but honestly, I don't remember much besides knowing it’s a great movie and that I definitely need to rewatch it.
I'm with Linda White41 on this one—Rickman is just legendary, as always. I still remember that scene where he's trying to convince the woman he broke into that he's not interested because, you know, angels don't have reproductive organs; they're basically just like "Barbie dolls," haha.🤣
That part was gold.

hehe, she was pretty great during that tequila scene too. And that guy isn't even allowed to drink, he can only do that thing where he holds it in his mouth and spits it out. Doing it a few times like that... man, it was too good.🙏 🙏 🙏

Good grief... what an incredibly stupid movie.
It’s such a shame to see Alanis Morissette playing some half-witted Christmas role; I honestly thought she was at a much higher level than appearing in a ridiculous film that—unfortunately—isn't even funny, except for when Jay and Bob are running the show. 🙄

It’s a pretty silly movie—one of those attempts to explain certain Christian concepts to Americans through a comedic lens. Honestly, it feels like such a waste of talent, especially considering how many much better films this same crew has produced in the past...

Aside from the exceptional Clerks, that group hasn't exactly been churning out top-tier cinema.

I have to agree... though honestly, most of their other stuff is better than this one.

I see people here talking about some "dumbed down" explanation of Christianity. Look, Dogma is just a satirical take; it isn't trying to explain anything, whatever that's supposed to mean.

Otherwise, I'm with you—aside from Clerks and maybe Chasing Amy, Mr. Smith and his crew haven't exactly been churning out masterpieces lately. But if we're saying K. Smith has consistently stayed a step above the average American mainstream comedy, then yeah, I'll give you that.
