The Evil Dead series (1981 - 2013)

If there's anyone here who has actually sat down to watch the movie or is just a huge fan of it, please jump in! I'd love to hear what you think, whether you absolutely loved it or thought it was total trash.

So, I only ever saw the third installment—couldn't track down the first two anywhere—and honestly? It’s brilliant. The whole concept of it being a horror parody is just spot on. I especially loved those ridiculous bits, like him getting that prosthetic metal hand that reacts to nerve impulses (what century are we even living in?? 😁) and that bike that just won't stay on his hip...

There are plenty of other funny moments too, but I can't recall them since it's been ages since I watched it...

The sequel is easily the superior one. It stands out as one of the most unhinged movies ever made.
As for the first installment, you can't forget that insane scene where the tree attacks the woman. 😁

I just can't wrap my head around why a director as talented as Sam Raimi would waste his time on projects like Darkman or Xena... I guess some things will always remain a mystery to me 👎

As far as his Evil Dead films go, though, you have to hand it to him; they're easily among the best horror franchises out there 🙂

I haven't actually sat down to watch the first one yet, but I’ve seen the second and third installments at least a hundred times. The directing, the script, the dark humor, and that sheer amount of gore—it's all phenomenal. Does anyone else remember that specific moment where the witch from the basement grabs that savage guy and drags him under, sending blood spraying everywhere? Coll. And don't even get me started on the chainsaw decapitation, the dancing corpses, or the scene where he cuts off his own hand. Or when he's trying to hunt his hand down with a shotgun, putting holes in the wall and having blood spurt out of the woodwork. It’s absolutely horrific, brilliant, and hilarious all at once. Honestly, it blows the third movie out of the water, which felt way weaker by comparison. 👍 👍

Look, Darkman isn't actually a bad movie, but that's just your take. One thing I definitely agree on, though, is that Xena is total garbage. It’s just random clips thrown together with a rushed plot, some cheesy action, and all that nonsense, while making men look like complete idiots. It's bottom-of-the-barrel stuff. A simple plan would have been way better. He should be filming a new horror soon, but sadly, it won't be Evil Dead 4.

Seriously, this is easily one of the best movie franchises ever. Bruce Campbell is an absolute legend—straight up icon status. I’ve got them all on DivX if anyone's looking to grab a copy...
Has anyone actually heard of Within the woods? It’s basically the pilot for the Evil Dead film, shot a few years earlier and also starring Bruce Campbell. I have a copy, but man, the quality is just terrible. If anyone happens to have a better version, please let me know...??

It’s going to be tough to find a decent copy of In the Woods, whether you're hunting on DivX or even old VHS tapes. It’s a bummer. I’ve heard about that project and looked up some stills—they look pretty rough. Anyway, do you have any of the Evil Dead movies on DivX? If not, let me know which sequels you do have, and maybe we can work something out.👍 🙏

Darkman is actually great. I don't know—I think Xena is alright since it's basically just a giant joke, but either way, it beats Spider-Man.

I've got Evil Dead 1 and 2, plus Army of Darkness (though the quality isn't exactly amazing), and I even have the original ending for Army of Darkness. Just let me know what you're looking for!👍

As far as I know, there are only three sequels to Evil Dead, including that pilot episode In the Woods. Those extra sequels people talk about probably come from that one specific website that lists pitch ideas and scripts for movies (like potential sequels for Batman, Superman, etc.), which would include stuff for Evil Dead too. :😕

That sounds perfect—let's lock in that first one. It's the missing piece for my collection. Honestly, I don't care if the quality is a bit rough, as long as it's watchable. Hmm, I recall one version where at the very end (spoiler 🙂) Ash Williams ends up back at the shopping mall, takes out a few monsters, grabs his gear, and delivers that "Hail to the king, baby!" line. Then, I distinctly remember seeing another cut where he accidentally lands far in the future and just screams "Oh nooo!" or something to that effect... Now, which of those two is considered the official ending? Personally, I dig both; one is just pure style, while the other leaves the door wide open for a sequel... maybe something like 😁Evil Dead: Ash vs the RoboZombies😁

No worries at all, I can totally film that for you. I actually have a ton of stuff like that in my stash since I'm a huge horror buff—mostly hunting down those old-school 80s flicks. If you're down, we could even swap some movie lists sometime.
Regarding the original ending for Army of Darkness, there are actually two different ways it ends. The one you're looking for is the alternative one where Ash Williams wakes up way out in the distant future after drinking too much of that stuff, and he realizes the whole world has been completely trashed...😁

There are only three Evil Dead films, and even the third one has three different versions. You've got the theatrical version (the standard US cut) where Ash returns to the shop, then there’s the international/director’s version where he drinks too much and wakes up in the future, and finally, a Director's Cut that runs about 15 minutes longer. That is the extent of it.👍

Sounds good. My email is listed on my profile, so just shoot that list over and we'll compare notes. As for movies, my collection isn't huge. I've mostly got The Matrix, Brotherhood of the Wolf, and From Dusk Till Dawn. I do have some games and a few niche titles, though.

All three versions were released on DVD—Bruce Campbell vs. Army of Darkness, Boomstick edition (a 2-disc set).

The film series is just as phenomenal as the TV show itself...
