Anyone playing F1 sims?

Man, I am absolutely obsessed with the 2001 Formula 1 racing Championship. The whole reason is that you actually feel like you're driving the car, you know? Even though the AI is just straight-up brainless... seriously, every other driver is a complete moron. They won't let you pass when they're exiting the pit stop, and if you happen to brake even a tiny fraction of a second too early, they'll just smash right into you... it's ridiculous. It's nothing like GP4 where the car basically steers itself, and the drivers actually behave during qualifying instead of blocking you while they head to the pits, though that game has its perks too. Anyway, I haven't put down F1 RC since the summer of 2001! What about you guys?

GP2 is definitely starting to feel a bit dated—though I have to admit, it still hits the spot.

The way GP4 handles steering is a bit frustrating—it gets under my skin sometimes—but honestly, it’s becoming the standard across most modern sims. That shift from analog to digital input can feel jarring, though you can usually go into the settings and dial it back or turn it off entirely.

EA Sports F1—honestly, it’s just garbage.

I haven't had the chance to play F1RC yet—though I've always wanted to—so if you wouldn't mind sending it over, I'd really appreciate it. 😁

Do you know of any good Formula 1 management sims—the kind where you actually handle driver transfers, car development, and race strategy?

Man, I never actually got around to playing GP2. But seriously, how do you even begin to minimize that sliding in GP4? It drives me absolutely insane! Personally, I think F1 RC is killer—the graphics are basically on par with GP4, and the gameplay is top-tier since you're fully in control of the car. You’ve even got the clutch option if you want it, which keeps the engine from stalling when you take off... plus a bunch of other perks. The only catch is it can be a real beast to drive. Sadly, I can't just send the game over to you; I don't have a disc or anything, it's just installed on my PC and that's that. But honestly, just ask around among your friends who are into gaming, someone's bound to have it lying around somewhere.

Alright. So, regarding the manager game, I've got F1 manager '98, but it won't even run, so I can't really tell you if it's any good. I'd love to give it a shot, but there's zero driving involved...

GP4 - hands down the best simulation option out there!
If you're struggling with steering, the solution is simple: just use a steering wheel!

You absolutely can. In fact, if you want the best experience for GP4, nothing beats an FAP unit. As for the connection issue, it’s a trivial fix as long as you have the right hardware on hand. If anyone here is interested, I’m happy to send over some instructions!
If you don't happen to own an FAP wheel, my advice is to grab one from a Tatra instead; it's easily the top choice for GP3.

Actually, that steering issue has been a thing since the Formula 1 Grand Prix days. You can usually bypass it if you use a steering wheel or a joystick instead. It’s even more noticeable when you're using a decent Force Feedback wheel...

It’s a bit of a shame, really. Not too long ago, I was stuck playing nothing but GP3 or GP4 simply because my graphics card couldn't handle anything more demanding. Now that I've finally upgraded to a new rig, I've run into the exact opposite problem: I don't actually have any disk space left to install them...

Anyway, I'm currently on the hunt for something new to sink my teeth into. I've been hearing some great things about F1 challenge—supposedly it's quite the gem.

By the way, I’m planning to attempt building my own custom steering wheel setup so I can finally drive the way I'm supposed to.🙂 I have most of the concept mapped out in my head; I just need to iron out a few minor details first.🙂

I’ve been grinding through F1 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002, all the EA classics😁
Out of those 4, the 2001 version is definitely my favorite
But let's be real, all 4 of them have absolutely broken AI😠
For example,
-If you brake even a little bit too much, they smash straight into you
-They'll wreck you the second you're trying to exit the pits
-If you're behind them, they just park the car and won't let you pass for anything
-They wait until the literal last second to pit for fuel, so when I'm running 60-lap races😁, basically nobody makes it through without an issue
-It's ridiculous how often a Minardi or an Arrows ends up faster than a Ferrari, Williams, or Mercedes😲
-And don't even get me started on how useless they are when it rains
Despite all these massive flaws, whenever I feel like it, I'll install them and hammer out a season or two with a realistic lap count😁
Haven't touched the others yet, but whatever—I've got nothing but time

I've spent so much time playing through the entire Grand Prix series, but lately, I've just been sticking to GP4 using my Force Feedback wheel, and it’s honestly fantastic!! 👍 I have two different managers I play with. One is an old classic—personally, it's the absolute best in my book—which I believe is the Grand Prix world manager from '97, though I can't say for certain. Unfortunately, it won't run on Windows 2000 or XP, so I'd actually have to dig out an old Windows 98 machine just to play it. Plus, it only supports 16-bit color! 😁 Even so, it's incredibly realistic and a blast to play. My second option is an F1 manager that Electronic Arts distanced themselves from; even though a small studio developed it under their supervision, they apparently made sure to omit the EA logo at the start. It's definitely a bit buggy, but it features actual 3D racing visuals along with all the real teams and sponsors... it's a great way to pass the time when nothing else is available.

I've played GP3, and it’s the most realistic simulation out there. Anyone else playing Gran Turismo 3? They have the formula cars in there too..

Yeah, I'm playing GP4 right now, but honestly, nothing beats Monaco Grand Prix Racing Simulation 2. For its time, the graphics were seriously impressive, and the physics just felt so spot on. You get total control over the car, plus that sweet split-screen mode if you want to go head-to-head with a friend... It’s a total legend. Such a bummer they never made any modern sequels!
