A bit late to the party here 😢

Dead Alive is essentially the American version of Braindead, though unfortunately, it’s been "censored." They cut out the sequence where the zombies storm out of the basement and one grabs a bottle of Jack Daniel’s (I think), along with a few other little bits. Basically, they scrubbed any scenes featuring recognizable brand names.
I’ve watched everything except Forgotten Silver, and honestly, it’s all great. Just a heads up: Forgotten Silver isn't a real documentary. Spielberg cooked the whole thing up and sold it off as if it were a true story.

Juriel, if you haven't picked them up yet, I have Meet the Feebles on DivX, and pretty much everything else—including Dead Alive and Braindead—on DVD, if you're interested.

Wait, which one is his sixth movie?

I still don't quite get how that guy managed to snag 20 Oscars myself...😁

Why on earth is this thread linked under Heavenly Creatures on the list? I'm honestly kind of craving a rewatch of that one lately.😢

Anyway, just to jump in here—I actually think Bad Taste is way better than Braindead.

Well, that's mainly because we're all sitting here debating those early films by Steven Spielberg.

I’ve only managed to catch Bad Taste so far, and honestly, it’s a fantastic film.

I have The Frighteners on my Blu-ray collection too, though I haven't gotten around to it yet... is it actually any good???

It's a good movie—just don't expect it to hit quite like Bad Taste. It's definitely more conventional compared to his earlier stuff, but I'd say keep an open mind. 👍

@Richard Hernandez13 — poor mods, honestly. You name the whole thread after the one movie that barely even came up in the discussion.

Yeah, Ethan Perez97, I saw you were hunting for the Suspiria soundtrack on your blog—you can find it on eMule, I’m actually listening to it right now.

What are you actually doing in Chicago?😲

Jose Chase2 said:@Richard Hernandez13 - man, you really need better moderation skills if you're going to title a thread after the one single movie that barely even got brought up in the discussion.

Go ahead, bring him up then.
Honestly, your posting style is just a little sad.

The Frighteners is actually coming out on DVD any day now.
The extended cut, naturally.

Heavenly Creatures is an absolute masterpiece. There—I said it.

p.s. — is "masterpiece" one word or two?😬

It's the extended cut, obviously.

Should I grab it at Target or just find it online?

Write Heavenly Creatures kicks ass.

p.s. - should I write "kicks ass" (referring to the movie) or "kick ass" (referring to the creatures)?😬

Jose Chase2 said:Is he showing it at the local cinema or just out in the world?

Oh, he’s definitely hitting the big screens somewhere.
And honestly, since Steven Spielberg has become such a massive heavyweight in the industry, I wouldn't be surprised if he even makes an appearance around our neck of the woods.
(It’s been available on VHS for ages now—long since passed its prime, really.)

Man, just look at this, it looks incredible (I really need to find someone to show this to):

If you go with "kicks ass," you really ought to put "Heavenly Creatures" in quotes—otherwise, it looks like a typo where you're talking about literal creatures from heaven rather than the film.

Since Steven Spielberg has become such a massive name in the meantime, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets a wide release here in the States too.

Yeah, I watched The Frighteners on VHS a long time ago, too.

As for the other guy—if you judged a movie solely by its poster, this might just crack the top films of the year. It's a great little poster. Reminds me of those hand-painted ones you see outside the local college campus.

It's a good thing you brought that up, because now that high-speed internet has finally reached my neck of the woods, I can actually bother to download that soundtrack without it taking an eternity...

Bad Taste is great, though I guess Braindead might be even better. His puppet movie from that era, Meet the Feebles, is also probably worth a look.

The Frighteners was basically his ticket into the big leagues, though it felt more like a shrug from the industry—like they were saying, "Sure kid, go shoot this and we'll see if you actually have what it takes." Honestly? It’s easily his worst work, or if we’re being pedantic, the only real dud in his entire career. 😁It’s watchable enough, sure, but it lacks everything that makes Spielberg, well, Spielberg. I have to admit, watching it for the first time was a massive letdown for me, especially since I had already binged everything else he’d ever done.

Whatever. It’s just a tiny blip in the rearview mirror now. We’re all just waiting for King Kong!
👍

p.s. Someone once described Meet the Feebles as "muppets on acid," and honestly, they nailed it. It is hands down the most insane puppet movie ever made—you’ll be choking on laughter from start to finish! 👍

Just one quick question...
is there any truth to the rumors that Spielberg might be filming Hyperion, and does anyone happen to have any inside info on that?

I haven't heard anything about that. I just did a quick search, and apparently, the author of George Lucas's work threw a bone to the press by suggesting Scorsese might be the one to direct it.
