I’ve scoured the entire WebMD forums, and apparently, I’m the only one dealing with this. Such comfort. 😒

I’m running out of places to look, so I figured I’d just ask here...

On my right index fingerβ€”right at that middle knuckleβ€”these tiny little bumps have popped up. Maybe it's a fungal thing? πŸ˜• The whole finger is swollen, making it impossible to bend, not to mention how much it hurts 😒. It even looks like the joint itself might be deforming, though I'm probably just being paranoid πŸ™„

A few weeks ago, the exact same thing happened to my ring and middle fingers. Those bumps eventually dried up and cleared up fine. But now, I’ve convinced myself this is spreadingβ€”which it clearly isβ€”and I can already picture my entire arm swelling up and causing circulation issues. 😱

Maybe it’s just 2:00 AM and sleep deprivation talking, and I'm imagining the worst πŸ™„. Still, hearing some perspectives before I can actually get to a doctor would be a relief...

Thanks..

Look, I honestly have no clue what you’re dealing with here, so I can't really offer any advice, but you should probably head to the doctor first thing tomorrow morning,
though, I guess there's a chance it might be nothing at all.

I mean, I really do believe everything is going to turn out fine. πŸ™‚

Just remembered my best friend went through this once.

He was at his high school in Chicago when he approached some random girl, started hitting on her, kissed her, then got home and realized his hand was covered in these crazy little red bumps. It started spreading all over his body and torso until it almost reached his junk.

In a moment of pure panic, he told himself he’d just do it one last time, because if the rash hit his penis, he figured he might actually have to get it cut off. So, he did it.

The lie: He rubbed semen all over the rash.

Truth: After he finished masturbating, the rash just cleared up.

Of course it should be πŸ™‚ besides, what’s the absolute worst that could happen? Losing a few bucks, maybe a finger or twoπŸ™„ (I’m already a joke to myself 😁)

Tomorrow is a holiday, and the day after... but what am I supposed to do in the meantime? One minute, giving myself a massage and slathering on various creams seems like a brilliant idea, then the thought hits me that I might just be 'stimulating' whatever I already have and spreading it further...

hmm πŸ€”
I don't know, maybe try some creams? I guess it shouldn't hurt, but honestly, I have no clueβ€”I've always been pretty clueless when it comes to medical stuff. 😁

I'm not entirely sure, but I have a feeling you might be dealing with some kind of fungal infection. It’s probably nothing to lose sleep over, but you really should check in with your doctor to get a prescription for either a cream or some pills, depending on how far along it is...

I mean, just call the on-call doctor or hit up the ER if you're really stressing out about it. Seriously, just ask them somethingβ€”it won't cost you anything and you might actually get some sleep, even though I guess it probably isn't anything too serious anyway.πŸ˜‰

I went through the exact same thing. For me, it started right in the middle of my palms and then spread out toward my fingers. After a while, those blisters actually started cracking open along with the skin. Man, the pain and the itching were just brutal...

My doctor told me it was eczema. I tried all sorts of different creams, but I eventually realized the real culprit was my dish soap. Now, I only use the extra-gentle kind, and I haven't had a single issue in three or four years.

Exactly what I'm saying! Except on my end, everything is swollen and I can't even feel my finger😒 okay, I know I'm being dramatic, but it looks absolutely revolting..

I'll calm down eventually... thanks πŸ™‚

Hey, I just realized you were struggling to track down that link. Thanks, Nicole Baker 😘

Just a heads-up, my aunts at the CVS were trying to sell me some special cream called B 20% OUTSIDE (no, I’ll be applying it 😬 ) and who knows if it'll actually work... it smells terrible... but my finger isn't nearly as swollen anymore.....

Anyway, thanks everyone

So, what did the doctor actually tell you?

Becauseβ€”you went, didn't you?

I went through the exact same thing you described. It was the middle of winter, and the itching was so intense I actually ended up with cracked skinβ€”man, it was painful.

To make a long story short, my dermatologist ran some tests for fungus, but everything came back negative. He concluded it was just a massive inflammatory reaction triggered by a rough patch I was going throughβ€”basically, a mountain of stress and anxiety. It’s totally possible. A few days prior, I had been in a complete state of mental burnout.

Anyway, he put me on an antibiotic pill, which cleared the skin right up, but it completely wrecked my gut flora, so I dealt with some... let's call them "downstream" issues πŸ™„ That's just how it goes with meds, I guess.

Oh, and per his prescription, the pharmacy whipped up a custom cream for me to apply to my hands. That cleared things up within a few days.

why?

When we were kids, my little cousin used to mess around with frogs all the time, and he’d end up with his fingers covered in these weird little bumps and warts. He actually knew which specific types of grass would make those things peel right off.

But since you weren't out there playing in the mud with amphibians, what you're dealing with is probably just some kind of allergic reaction to something. I went through something similar once; my doctor even asked if I had been handling certain weeds, though I hadn't, so I never really figured out the trigger. Anyway, I just applied some cream and it cleared up. This was back when I was first starting out at my job; my coworkers kept making comments about how my hands looked scabby and they’d actively avoid using my keyboard.😒

You went, didn't you?

Well, yeah, but she didn't really say much. She just asked if I had any herbal creams at home. I told her no, and that was that.πŸ™„

It’s certainly not from stressβ€”maybe it's a lack of stress? 😁

The cream seems to be working, though. I've only used it twice and the breakouts are already starting to clear up. Yes.😎

I wouldn't want to rain on your parade πŸ˜‰ but I have to give you a heads-up: those creams they stock at CVS to treat eczema only deal with the symptoms. Sure, the breakouts might clear up and the itching will stop, but there is a real chance this comes right back.

Did you actually see a specialist dermatologist? Because what she told you sounds like pure snake oil to me.

Kenneth Hernandez67, well... πŸ™‚

I didn't see a specialist; it was just a regular GP...

Sure, I'm fully aware there's a chance this returns. I had a milder version a few weeks back. I suppose it won't just keep getting worse every single time, right? 😒 And if it does come back... I'll just head to a dermatologist. 😒
