I haven't seen the Matrix sequels, so I can't really weigh in on those.

Look, even if they're small, *Irreversible* and *The Apartment* are legit great movies. Plus, Monica Bellucci was absolutely incredible in them.

I completely agree with what you wrote. I have to admit, I was definitely raised on American commercial media, but even so, MTV and VH1 remain my absolute favorites. Honestly, music might be one of the main reasons why Wicker Park holds such a special place in my heart;
If it makes any more sense, I’d say I’m really more of an alternative commercial enthusiast, if you know what I mean.
At the end of the day, it's all business, but some of these packages offer such unique qualities that they really resonate with us—everything from that indie music scene to those indie films, which I have a particular soft spot for.
That being said, I certainly can't say I ignore high-quality European cinema either;
For instance, I know *Malena* is an incredible film (though that marks both the beginning and the end for Monica Bellucci), even if the movie itself isn't my personal favorite—but that’s a different conversation. I wish I could list all the other non-American films I love, but I don't always categorize them by their country of origin. However, I simply have to mention *Il Postino*, *Kolja*, *Abracadabra*, and *the Boom* 😛, as well as *Flowers in December*...
So, there's a little something. They are all top-tier films, and I hope that proves even just a bit that I truly value quality. I can't help it if I enjoy MTV movies, though (and for the record, back in the day, the MTV Movie Awards were the biggest spectacle of them all, so yeah 😬))

As for Diane Kruger, I find her absolutely irresistible. We all know she started out as a model, so we can have a rational conversation about her technical skill as an actress,
but when I see her in Wicker Park, just one single look from her is enough to win me over. She has this incredibly personal, unique quality where she communicates so much through silence; her expressions are truly breathtaking. I also thought she was fantastic in Troy; that role seemed to suit her perfectly, and she played it beautifully—honestly, she was more than just good. Then there's her in Merry Christmas, where she’s once again lovely and charming. I realize none of that is the ultimate yardstick for her talent as an actress, but how can you not notice it? Besides, all her roles have called for those qualities. I'm genuinely looking forward to seeing her in Copying Beethoven.

The Apartment is the work of Gilles Mimoun—specifically, a director whose debut happens to be his only true cinematic offering, unless you count his influence on the screenplay for the Wicker Park remake. When you look at a filmmaker who can pull off a debut this polished, you can't help but feel a bit cynical about the fact that he didn't follow it up with even one more feature. The Apartment is a thriller-romance-drama that succeeds almost entirely through its sheer visual weight and atmosphere. Between the curated soundtrack and the cinematography, it’s nearly impossible—at least for me—to remain indifferent while watching. Plus, using a city like Paris as the backdrop—always so nostalgic, dramatic, and moody—essentially makes the setting a third character in the film. It's a beautiful piece of cinema that I'd recommend to just about anyone who hasn't seen it yet...

Sorry, that slipped out.🤷 I guess I was assuming I was talking to people who had already seen the film, and I forgot that some of you visit this page without having watched it. For those of you who haven't seen it, I would still suggest watching it despite what I wrote, because the film really is excellent. Sorry again for mentioning the ending, though I don't think I revealed everything; there is still quite a bit more to see.😉

I just finished watching a film. It didn't hit me directly, but I have this visceral, almost allergic reaction whenever someone decides to spoil the ending. 😉

To be honest, the only thing that makes Wicker Park even remotely appealing to me is the cinematography. In every other conceivable way, it falls short of the original.

It’s an interesting observation, really—in both films, the actress who delivers the superior performance happens to be the less conventionally attractive one.

Wicker Park is way better. The ending of The Apartment is just plain stupid. And honestly, that supporting actress in The Apartment is such a jerk... they really should have cast someone more attractive.

The Apartment doesn't even feature Josh Hartnett, so you guys can say whatever you want 😍

The cold, hard truth is that Americans are totally incapable of making anything original,
so they just scavenge ideas or straight-up rip off other movies.

Then they dumb everything down to suit the average American audience.
