So, someone just shared that link from CNN about nail health...
Man, I’ve been wondering—that article didn't even mention this part.

Ever since I can remember, I've had these little white clouds on my nails. Just tiny white spots. Honestly, I've gotten used to them and wouldn't even bother changing anything...

But does anyone actually know why I have them while everyone else doesn't?

Some people told me it's a vitamin deficiency or whatever. But my health is solid. I take care of myself, hit the gym constantly, and eat clean....

😛

If I’m not mistaken, it’s a calcium deficiency. I barely take any calcium myself and I don't deal with those spots. Man...

nah, that’s not it...
i eat yogurt every single day, plus cheese, and I drink milk sometimes too...

so yeah, that argument doesn't hold water....

I think you're just lacking some zinc.

I honestly have no clue if it’s caused by some kind of deficiency, just leftover damage from an old injury, or something else entirely, but I dealt with the exact same thing when I was a kid... and I actually still have one right now on my index fingernail.

Hi everyone, I am struggling with my nails lately... they are peeling and splitting quite badly, which is incredibly inconvenient and sometimes even painful. I can't even trim them too short because then they become sensitive to the slightest touch. I think I need to start taking some supplements, so if you have any experience with that, please let me know. Additionally, if you have recommendations for strengthening gels or nail polishes—or just any general advice—I would truly appreciate it. Thank you.

If you're looking for nail polish, check out the cosmetics aisle first.
If my memory serves me right, there was some kind of Trident product—or something similar—that a few regulars on these forums swear by as a total lifesaver for nail health.
As far as supplements go, anything containing a B-complex usually does the trick. I used to take Fitoval, which worked wonders for both my hair and my nails.
But if your nails are truly that painfully thin and brittle, are you absolutely certain there isn't an underlying health issue at play that hasn't surfaced yet?
(Before I realized I had a thyroid issue, I dealt with the exact same thing—my nails would just shatter and peel. They were so thin that even getting a manicure was painful; I couldn't handle gel extensions or filing because it felt like the drill was hitting the nerve itself.)

I honestly don't know what the issue is; my nails have always been somewhat weak, but over the last few months, it has become an absolute disaster. I simply cannot let them grow past the fingertip because they just snap off...

Listen, it might honestly just be a vitamin deficiency. Taking a high-quality multivitamin or supplements like Centrum or Nature Made can really help address the core issues behind brittle nails and thinning hair—things like vitamins A, B, D, and E, plus zinc, copper, and iron. If you happen to be dealing with any mild anemia, this could make a difference, though I wouldn't expect an overnight miracle. You’ll likely need a month or two before you notice any actual change.
That said, if you're experiencing other symptoms, it might be worth sitting down with your doctor to rule anything else out.

Grab some olive oil and soak your fingers in it for about ten minutes every single day. You'll see a massive difference pretty quickly. Beyond that, you probably need to up your intake of B vitamins and calcium.

I used to deal with nails that were incredibly thin, brittle, and just constantly splitting... they’d peel so badly I couldn't even grow them out past a tiny bit... then I stumbled upon this "miracle" strengthener Trident and my nails became so much stronger. I actually managed to grow them out almost an inch (!) without any cracking... that stuff is honestly phenomenal 👍

Anyway, you can find it at most local drugstores for about $23...

I think I might give this a shot. 👍

But there's something else that's been bothering me... whenever my nails grow out a little bit, they start curling downwards—almost like claws—specifically on my index, middle, and thumbs. My ring and pinky fingers stay perfectly normal, though... 😕What could be causing that?

Honestly, I have no clue what it is, but the same thing used to happen to me—now they don't even grow long enough to curve before they just peel or crack entirely. 😲

Mine only tend to curl at the tips,
but lately, they haven't been doing that nearly as much,
and honestly, they're looking a bit healthier too,
so I might just give that Trident stuff a shot,
who knows, I might actually end up with long nails after all 😁

I used Trident nail strengtheners and they helped quite a bit. However, I stopped using them because they caused weight gain, so my nails returned to their original state. I never had major issues; they just used to peel once they reached a certain length. They weren't particularly strong, and I could never grow them as long as I wanted. Trident fixed that, so it might be worth a try for someone else...

Good grief, how many nail threads does this forum need to have?😁

Some people swear by Trident, but honestly, I haven’t seen much of a difference myself. Just think about how much you're going to blow through on those products...$27😉

I’ve been popping 100 mg Diflucan for a solid year now, and honestly, I’m starting to wonder if I totally botched my fungal treatment somewhere along the line. Now they’re sending me back to the lab for more testing, and things are getting pretty gnarly—I actually lost an entire nail on my right thumb. At this point, I’m at a loss. My doctor told me to stop the pills because they’re too heavy on the liver, and I don't want to risk permanent damage there. Does anyone know of any other way to handle this? The fungus is already starting to spread to my other nails.

I went to see my nail technician because I started noticing these little white spots appearing on my nails
She told me it’s just a sign of a vitamin deficiency
Apparently, I need to start taking some B vitamins
But you can't just take a single vitamin on its own because the body isn't actually able to break it down effectively—for example, if you want to absorb calcium properly, you have to take Vitamin C alongside it to help the process...
So, my advice is to just take a full multivitamin complex instead

I’m sure these threads have existed before... but I don't care.
Please, if anyone knows anything about my situation, let me know.
My nails have these vertical ridges... they aren't discolored, just looks like I've been scratching them raw. Plus, there are pits at the base of my fingers, and now they're spreading to the rest of my nails. These holes are horizontal—like a deep, thick line running through the middle of the nail... If someone could please help me figure this out, because I'm honestly terrified.🙂🙂
