Honestly, anything by Nick Hornby is top-tier for me! In my eyes, he’s easily one of the best modern writers out there, right up there with Irvine Welsh. I didn't actually finish the movie because I had to head out 😢 . I definitely need to make up for that.
You really should pick up 'How to Be Good' by Nick Hornby. The book is fantastic—just a total blast. The only one that didn't quite land for me was 'Fever Pitch.' Man, I could go on about him forever... sorry everyone!

The movie is honestly okay...
The biggest plot twist is when Ian walks into the shop and you think, "Man, he's about to get absolutely wrecked," but instead, he just lets him go... total sucker punch.

You might find those two a bit much, but honestly, Laura reminds me of a weeping willow—all slumped and melancholy (which is exactly why I dig them)...

If a true freak thinks that's some kind of masterpiece, I won't sell it from my shop even if I need the money. 👍

And look, don't come for me here, but I actually found it pretty romantic.
Cusack searching for a love where he doesn't have to live in constant fear of being abandoned... he plays that so well.

To movie is fine, I guess, if you just want something to watch—but honestly, once you read a book now... it simply doesn't compare.
That said, I have to give credit where it's due to that blonde actress I saw in that American film "Mifune." She’s quite captivating. What was her name again? I'd love to know! :-)

That’s honestly why I liked the film so much; I found myself just watching which bands were playing in the shop and listening to all their rambling nonsense about music and stuff...
I actually wanted to move this thread over to the 'Music' section; I think it would get a better reception there (...assuming those music snobs even bother to watch TV 😁 )

An absolute gem of a movie! To be honest, I didn't truly appreciate its value until my second viewing. The first time I went to see it in theaters, I was there with my girlfriend, who actually dumped me right in the middle of the film. It was impossible to focus on the screen, and the whole experience left me with a pretty sour memory. Once I finally got my head straight and watched it again on DVD, I realized just how great it really is. 👍

The character development is top-notch, and John Cusack delivers a flawless performance (I've actually read the book, too)!

Could someone please explain the logic here? Why does using a song in a movie suddenly disqualify it from being played at a funeral? What's the deal with that?

Because that song (by The Rolling Stones), specifically the instrumental version, plays during the funeral in The Big Chill. That’s why it’s "disqualified."

Absolute masterpiece. The soundtrack is incredible... and man, John Cusack is just perfect in this role. 😍
