I headed down to the drugstore yesterday. After reading some chatter on the forums suggesting Selsun Blue was actually worth the hype, I decided to pick some up and gave my hair a wash following the instructions to the letter. It’s got that menthol kick—really chilled out my scalp, which was a relief since I’d been scratching constantly—and honestly, after just one wash, the dandruff is completely gone. It really does the job. Definitely worth a shot if you're struggling.
I tried Vichy once, and while it seemed to help at first, the second time around it actually made things worse. My theory? Our scalps eventually build up a sort of immunity to these specific formulas—you get that initial relief, but once your skin adapts, they stop working entirely.

That stuff doesn't even fight dandruff. It just coats your scalp in this film that keeps the flakes stuck to your head instead of letting them fly off.

It’s cheap. You pick it up for next to nothing and it actually works, unlike all that overpriced garbage I’ve wasted money on.

Vichy! They’ve got their anti-dandruff shampoo available for both dry and oily hair types. I personally use the one for dry hair whenever it's needed, and honestly, it actually works. I used to deal with the exact same issues you're facing right now.

Honestly, you might want to just head to a dermatologist, because if your scalp is itching that much, it’s a sign you're dealing with a fungal infection... otherwise, maybe try some Asebon $10👍 or even T-gel like $25👍

Look, you might want to try picking up some salicylic acid lotion, but honestly, your first move should be seeing a doctor to get a professional diagnosis and a prescription. Don't go lounging out in the sun too much either, and don't think a trip to the beach is going to fix this if your scalp is already irritated—the salt water will just make it worse. Stick to something gentle, like Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo.
The salicylic acid worked for me too, though I had also totally wrecked my scalp by over-brushing. And for heaven's sake, when you wash your hair, stop scrubbing so hard with your fingernails! 🙂

With Pantene, my hair feels incredibly soft, but the dandruff is always there.

Yeah, I went through that too, a few times actually, but eventually I could switch to any shampoo I wanted.🙂

Trust the process—just hit it twice a week for four weeks, then switch back to Head & Shoulders and you’re pretty much set for the next year... It works wonders at reviving $23 so you can finally stop worrying!

I’ve been using Pantene, which I found to be quite effective, especially considering it only runs me about three dollars... The only slight drawback is that after a while, my hair starts to feel a bit straw-like, though applying a good conditioner seems to resolve that issue entirely 🙂

I’ve stuck with Head & Shoulders—even though my dandruff is long gone—mostly out of habit. Honestly, if that stuff isn't cutting it for you, just swing by a local CVS or Walgreens and ask the pharmacist for a recommendation on what actually works... you'll probably find a solution that does the trick.

First thing... stop scratching. You're only making it worse. Second... get yourself a high-quality anti-dandruff shampoo. Personally, Pantene worked for me. Avoid cheap, low-grade brands.

Dandruff is usually the first sign that your body’s defenses are starting to crumble.
