Midnight Express
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
The Omen
Umberto D
Ballad of a Madrigal

I've been hunting this one down for years. It was my old man's favorite. Honestly, the book is top-tier, and having McMurphy—that loud, reckless rebel—as the lead felt like he was written specifically for Jack. While I was reading, his whole vibe just fit every single scene and stunt that "madman" pulls off perfectly... makes sense why the movie and the acting are considered legendary. Really want to give it another watch. 🙂

How can you be looking for it for years? 🤷

Regarding Jack, there really are very few actors who possess that essential dose of "madness" he brings to the table. It is no wonder his performance in this film was so masterful, especially since it's one of the few to sweep five major Oscars. Entirely deserved.

I really ought to add five more from that list of mandatory films I simply must own

Rosemary's Baby (dir. Polanski)
Taxi Driver
Cinema Paradiso
The Deer Hunter
Halloween (the original, obviously)

Truth be told, there are at least 55 on my list, but there we are...

Honestly, I don't think I've ever seen that thing on TV, and I definitely haven't stumbled across it on VHS or DVD. Maybe it's floating around somewhere online to download, but I’m terrible with that stuff—I'd probably just end up catching some virus. 🤷

Ed Wood, Big Fish, Amadeus, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Paths of Glory. There are plenty more films you ought to have in your collection; these are just a few of my absolute favorites.

1. Fight Club (which they never even bothered to release on DVD here in the States 🙄)
2. American History X (another one that either never saw an official US DVD release, or if it did, you can't find it anywhere to save your life 🙄)
3. Pulp Fiction 😁
4. A Clockwork Orange 🙏
5. Scarface 👍

A Clockwork Orange ... Pure madness
Cat People ... Something more primal

Not quite my top five, but I still have them all on VHS 😁

"Rear Window"—honestly, you really only need to mention Alfred Hitchcock...
"Cabaret"
"Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street"
"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone"
"It's a Wonderful Life"

Angel Heart

A Clockwork Orange

Apocalypse Now

My little village!!

Barfly

12 Monkeys

set "The Godfather"

and well, damn, you can't just get by with five bucks...
honestly, the title should be top-tier if we split it into categories—that would be a bit more fair and actually make some sense..

I really love this list! 😁

I would just add Fight Club to the mix. Honestly, five films is far too small a selection for such an important choice!
