5 must-have movies for every home collection?

Dirty Dancing. Classic. You ever seen it? It’s just one of those movies that stays with you. Simple story, but it works. Why does it still hold up so well after all these years? Maybe it's the nostalgia. Or maybe it's just a great movie. Regardless, it's worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

My selection criteria weren't about picking my absolute favorites—that’s not really the point—but rather finding movies you can rewatch a dozen times without getting bored, you know? Something that sets the right chill vibe for a house party.

Ugh, just five? That’s practically nothing—but alright, let me give it a shot:

1.) 2001: A Space Odyssey
2.) Memento
3.) Fight Club
4.) Raging Bull
5.) Pulp Fiction

Honestly, picking only five is a total squeeze...😕

2. The Golden Child — just good old Eddie to cure the sheer monotony of life
3. Gone in 60 Seconds — probably the only car movie that actually clicked with me
4. Casablanca — maybe a total cliché, but man, that movie hits different every single time
5. My Melodies, My Dreams — mostly just to annoy the people who can't stand musicals 😁 btw. personally, I'm all about those song-heavy flicks 😁

Animated stuff: Mulan, Hercules, Shrek, Monsters, Inc., Nightmare Before Christmas....

Honestly, I could go on forever... There’s something here for just about any mood. 😁

There is absolutely no way I can reach a decision right now, and I’ll be perfectly content an hour from now regardless.
But any collection WOULD have to include Mediterraneo and my absolute all-time favorite: Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas." On Blu-ray. It's non-negotiable.
Maybe Blade Runner too. And, of course, the classics—Pulp Fiction. Oh, and Aki Kaurismäki. Under the limit.

It’s actually pretty tough to narrow it down to just five films, but if I had to pick, my list would be:

- The Alfred Hitchcock collection
- The Godfather trilogy
- Fight Club
- The Deer Hunter
- Pulp Fiction

I guess I really should have included The Shawshank Redemption, Citizen Kane, Ilusory Bridges, The Lord of the Rings, Hair, Sleepers, Point Break, and maybe Saving Private Ryan for the war movies.

Hmm, perhaps it would have been better to categorize them by genre.

I’m looking for a noir or an indie art film (like some cult indie gem)

...but honestly, it all comes down to what you're into. Someone looking for an adrenaline rush isn't going to sit through Bambi;
the traditionalists can't wrap their heads around weird indie stuff; and if you're a scaredy-cat, you definitely aren't watching Hitchcock.

Fine, I’ll admit it—the classic ones like Snow White or Cinderella actually held up okay.

Personally, I'm all about Pixar. I own basically their entire catalog (or I think I do). Got some Charlie Chaplin too, though not enough.
Then there are the heavy hitters: Alien, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and a bunch of other great little flicks. Picking just five favorites? Forget it. Easier to pick 55.

Interesting point. My top five would be:

1. Star Wars (the whole saga)
2. Lord of the Rings (all three, though I've only seen two—but based on clips from the third, it looks solid)
3. The Matrix (again, the trilogy; hopefully the last one doesn't let me down)
4. The Godfather (another trilogy. I'm clearly being boring)
5. Lethal Weapon (this one actually has four sequels!😁 )

If I kept going, I'd just be narrowing down a much larger list including Groundhog Day, Ghostbusters, the Alien series, Die Hard, High Noon, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and more...

Five just isn't enough, man. Seriously.
