So, my PC cut out right in the middle of work yesterday and now it just won't budge. All I get is the LED light on the power switch, then nothing—total silence. What do you guys think about me grabbing this power supply for testing:

Is this even compatible? If the motherboard itself is fried, I’ll probably just bite the bullet and buy a whole new rig. This thing is running an FM2+ socket board, and honestly, finding replacements for that hardware is becoming a bit of a headache.

This is exactly my favorite way to deal with "problems"—solutions just fly out of people's mouths left and right, yet here we are, still hunting for an actual fix five days later. 🍿🍿🍿

It’s like when some guy hits you up on WhatsApp with this, claiming it’s been broken for an hour and expecting me to somehow fix it remotely over the phone...

That’s like having my check engine light pop up, snapping a photo, texting it to my mechanic, and honestly expecting him to diagnose the whole damn engine based on one blurry picture... 😵

Exactly. If I could actually get a clear picture of 😁what happened and why, maybe we'd get somewhere. How am I supposed to guess? Did an update brick everything, did the drive die, or is it a loose connector?

Hey everyone, I just tested my power supply on another PC and it’s showing the exact same symptoms as mine. To make matters worse, the other spare PSU I have also fails to work when plugged into that second machine. Looks like I'm heading straight to Micro Center tomorrow to pick up a new unit.

Honestly, both of those are total junk. You're better off grabbing a decent power supply:

I'm running into some issues getting my PC to boot. When I power it on, the tower seems to be running, but nothing shows up on the monitor. To make matters worse, there's no response from my mouse or keyboard either. I'm wondering if the motherboard might have failed or if it's something else entirely. I also didn't hear any POST beep codes during the startup process, though I can't say for certain if this specific build even has a speaker connected to trigger those sounds.

Maybe you just haven't seated the processor properly into the motherboard?

What do you mean? Of course it is. This PC is six years old and my kids use it for gaming. It was working fine for a while, though I'll admit it took a long time for Windows to load and get an image on the screen. But now, nothing happens at all.

Fire up the PC and pay close attention to the fans—CPU, GPU, power supply. Are they all spinning, or is one sitting dead? If you find one that isn't moving, check if it at least twitches or gives a little kick when you hit the power button before stalling out.
If there’s an extra TV or a secondary monitor plugged into the graphics card, unplug it. You want just one single monitor connected. You could also try switching to a different port on the card if one is available.
Try disconnecting all your drives—every HDD and SSD you've got—then attempt to boot. Let's see if we can get a picture that way. At the very least, we need to see if you can actually get into the BIOS.

It’s not the GPU or the drives. If the thing is actually running and you can hear it humming, it’s likely just the fans.
If there’s no beep code and your keyboard and mouse aren't lighting up, you're probably looking at a dead power supply or a fried motherboard.
If a peripheral was causing the issue—like a short circuit—it would have tripped the PSU and shut everything down instantly. You really need to check the power connectors on the ASUS Motherboard to make sure nothing is loose or looks burnt.
If you aren't sure how to troubleshoot that, it's probably better to take the rig to someone who knows their way around a PC (or just grab them a beer 🙂 and ask them to take a quick look).

It’s probably the motherboard, but I wouldn't bet the house on it just yet. There are other things we need to look at first.
Just because you hear fans spinning doesn't mean they're all actually working. You've got plenty of them inside the case and on the chassis itself; you can't exactly judge if one specific fan has died just by listening to the general hum. If he can spot one that isn't spinning, that would give us a much better clue about which component is failing.
When a PC refuses to output a signal, checking the GPU is always a smart move. The fact that the mouse and keyboard aren't lighting up suggests the issue might be deeper than just the graphics card, though not necessarily. A faulty GPU can sometimes mess with the motherboard's operation depending on the nature of the failure. Actually, does the mouse and keyboard flash for a second before dying, or is there just total silence from them?
The reason I suggested unplugging the drives isn't because I think the disks are broken, but to rule out the OS entirely. If the POST screen isn't showing up, and the issue is being caused by Windows, these symptoms are definitely possible. If he strips it down to just the bare motherboard, he should ideally get an image and be able to enter the BIOS. If that still doesn't work, then we're looking at a very strong sign that the ASUS Motherboard is the culprit. He could also try pulling and reseating the CMOS battery to reset the BIOS to factory defaults.

If there’s no post, the logo might show up, but he says there’s absolutely nothing on the screen and the monitor won't even kick on.
The fact that there’s zero light coming from the mouse or the keyboard makes me think we're looking at a voltage issue somewhere in the power supply.
Ideally, I'd want to see which fan is spinning, because if it's the CPU fan, these symptoms make total sense. If only I knew what kind of ASUS Motherboard, CPU, GPU (is it onboard?), and RAM setup we're dealing with—like, is it one stick or multiple? Honestly, it feels like this guy hasn't really messed around with hardware before, so his best bet is to hand it off to a pro. A technician could run through all these guesses in just a few minutes.

It might not show any logo at all; honestly, it probably just depends on the motherboard you're running. I just checked my own ASUS Motherboard to see how it handles things.
There are two specific options here:

Fast boot : auto Display Welcome logo
Fast boot : Disabled Display Welcome logo : Enabled

With those settings, the first thing I actually see is the Windows login screen. No ASUS logo, no Windows startup animation—nothing. My monitor stays dark for a few seconds while the PC is clearly already running for maybe five or six seconds. It basically finishes the POST in the background and doesn't even wake the monitor up until it hits the account login.
So, I went ahead and flipped those two options to:

Fast boot : Disabled
Fast boot : Enabled

Only now am I seeing the ASUS logo, then the Windows logo, and finally the actual login screen.

Theoretically, if those settings are active and there's some underlying issue with Windows, the monitor might stay black until you reach the login screen. If something is truly broken, though, the screen might not turn on at all.

Let me clarify why I suggested unplugging the TV from the graphics card. I deal with this exact headache myself. My GPU has a monitor hooked up via DisplayPort and a TV via HDMI. Every time I try to enter the BIOS during boot, the screen pops up on the TV instead. If I don't hit the key to enter the BIOS, everything boots fine to Windows on my main monitor. But if I disconnect the TV? Suddenly the BIOS shows up on the monitor because it has no other choice.
If someone could just explain how to change this setting, I’d appreciate it, because I can't find a single option to fix it. It isn't exactly a crisis, but it makes zero sense to me. It's like the BIOS treats the TV as the primary display or just prefers HDMI over DisplayPort for some reason, and I haven't the slightest clue why.

Hey guys, I could really use some help here... my laptop is totally stuck on the Windows logo. The loading dots just spin indefinitely until everything freezes up. It looks like it's just struggling to read the disk.
The whole mess started right after I installed Google SketchUp. I rebooted, and since then, it’s been a total brick. I managed to limp into Safe Mode and tried to wipe the program, but it wasn't even showing up in the list of installed apps. Eventually, I had to go through the Registry to force an uninstallation. Even though it says it's gone, the program still somehow runs. I ran `chkdsk /f /r` to see if that would fix anything, but nope—nothing. Since I can still see all my files when I'm in Safe Mode, I'm thinking the drive itself isn't actually dead.
