Raymond Robinson6 said:This new, super aggressive type of advertising makes it impossible to use Reddit. You can barely read more than a single line, let alone actually write anything. It’s just frustrating and pointless at this point.

rustywalker42 said:Look, I don't have anything against ads, but having to refresh the page ten times just to read one sentence? Or trying to send a message only to have an ad pop up and force another F5? That's ridiculous. This isn't normal. Please, just get this brainless ad off Reddit and fire whoever thought this was a brilliant idea.

Yeah, it’s honestly become unbearable.
Why can't I just get these ads to stop showing up on the side of the screen?
Or is there some other way to go about this that actually lets you read or leave a comment?
At this rate, Reddit is completely losing its purpose.

Sam Alvarez4 said:I'm not against ads either. But I definitely agree with everything else you mentioned.
Especially the part where I have to type the same comment three times because it just vanishes and kicks me back to the home screen...

No, we aren't. At least, I'm not.

You can also download AdBlock for your computer.

If you would simply dedicate three minutes of your time to this, you would find that these frustrations vanish entirely.
It is a worthwhile endeavor for everyone involved. Please, take some initiative and help yourselves if there is no other way to resolve this. After all, this Reddit community must be funded by something, regardless of the circumstances.

But if we all start using adblockers because certain ads make this place basically unusable, how is the site actually going to make money?

If he could actually get paid to market an adblocker, he'd be swimming in cash. 😬

Seriously, the current marketing strategy is brainless. Running ads this aggressive just forces everyone to install an adblocker immediately. It's pure madness because, at the end of the day, those ads are useless since practically nobody even sees them...
The only way this makes sense is if he got a kickback for every single adblock installation. He'd be a billionaire if he got a dollar for every person using his "marketing" to install an adblocker. 😁

Well, yeah, if you actually have admin rights on your machine, you can... But if you're just scraping by and surfing the web on the clock (cough, me, obviously 😁), then you're out of luck.

Man, I wish some random ad would just fly off the screen already! Like those lonely angels from Russia—I’m getting hit with ads even on Pornhub, but it never actually crossed my mind to just block them 👍

If ads are driving you crazy, just grab the right tool for whatever device you're using right now:

PC
* for Google Chrome
* for Mozilla Firefox
* for Opera

MOBILE
* for iPhone/iPad via Safari
* for Android

or just download the app:
* Reddit for iPhone/iPad
* Reddit for Android

Lisa Perez50, thank you so much for providing those links for the individuals who, for whatever reason, haven't been able to access them until now.
As for those poor souls who aren't even permitted to draw a full breath at their workplace (looking at you, Gerald Chavez7 👋 lol), I truly wish them the best of luck... unless, of course, they decide to resort to hacking their office computers or just browsing on their phones instead.

To everyone else:
Please feel free to reach out to the marketing department at marketing@monitor.com and vent all your frustrations regarding these overly aggressive advertisements.

stormybadger8... surely you must have realized by now that I don't exactly do this kind of work for free. 😁

My AdBlock isn't working anymore, and you guys have gone too far. What kind of scam is this? Are you just showing ads to whoever paid to drive crazy traffic?

Right now, Brave is the only thing working flawlessly.

This whole situation with the ads is just: "Well, I guess we're screwed, folks!"
We're all sitting here loading up our adblockers... but then who's actually going to see anything??????????
Only a total moron would pull a move like this!!!!!

Seriously, the brains behind this whole operation deserve some kind of award. I don't know, maybe a Golden Raspberry for Marketing or something equally pathetic. 😵

So I open up a webpage, start reading, and—bam—an ad pops up. I close it because Google tells me to, then it happens again...
Or, I'll be browsing a site and suddenly some random page jumps out at me saying not a chance...

What the hell is going on here?
Am I being hacked, or is Reddit just acting up?!

And it's not just once either—it's bam, bam, bam, bam... especially when I'm browsing on my phone...

It says in the top left corner
It’s not secure
The connection to this website isn't secure

So, then you go to click something and—boom—it just bounces you straight into a bunch of ads and stuff... super annoying.

That’s really an issue for whoever is choosing the ads. Maybe they aren't even tracking impressions, but just paying based on raw traffic—I don't know and I don't really care. The sheer volume of ads passed the point of being reasonable a long time ago. At this stage, any "ethical" concerns about the forum's financial sustainability feel a bit moot when the user experience is already trashed.🤷

Don't worry, anyone paying for advertising tracks their spend very closely.

What I'm trying to say is that these ads are an issue the staff at Reddit should probably look into and fix, since they're ultimately the ones responsible for the user experience. I haven't seen anyone from the site administration chime in on this thread or address the problem yet.

If you look closely, they’re using http://www.forum.org instead of https://www.forum.org

That's where the risk comes in. All the traffic going to and from forum.org is unencrypted and wide open. ☕
