Inspired by this topic, after reading this post from the user who started it—and seeing how several members agreed that changing the title really threw things off—it occurred to me that one small tweak could make people feel much more respected here. 🤔

The issue is that moderators acting as subforum editors have the power to change a thread's title without actually considering any poetic expression or specific intent the original poster had in mind. 😳

My suggestion is to implement a guideline where, if a moderator changes a title, they should paste the original title as the very first sentence of the opening post. It’s just a matter of basic respect if they aren't planning to actively participate in the discussion itself.

I know it sounds minor, but I don't see any reason why we couldn't do this, and I think it would mean a lot to some people.

🙂

Fine suggestion. Let's go with it. And make sure it's in bold.

I hope you all get why some titles need changing. Users pick what to click on based on the headline alone, so they need to be readable and clear. We have way too many threads with terrible titles that absolutely need fixing.

This specific case had a nice, poetic title, but the early replies were just pure mockery (see the second post: "Those are nowhere near a barn, but you're definitely in one, so go take a look out in the Midwest or the Appalachian Mountains; you'll probably find something there."). This thread would've devolved into a total roast and died instantly if the mods hadn't stepped in and wiped those first posts.

Generally speaking, when we update a title, we try to include a snippet from a key sentence within the original post.

Thanks for considering my small suggestion. Even though it’s just a minor tweak, I really think it could go a long way in making things smoother for both the users and the admin team. 🙂

Unfortunately, I have to speak up here again because my previous suggestion didn't end up being implemented. 😢

It’s probably not a huge deal, but I felt compelled to write a few thoughts regarding how moderators are titling threads, specifically concerning a discussion currently sitting in the Women's Corner. It's about this thread.

While I truly appreciate all the hard work and the lively personalities of the entire Women's Corner moderation team, I feel the title is a bit out of place and should really be clarified in an opening post. On the Women's Corner, mods often split off new threads when a conversation takes an unexpected off-topic turn, but I think it would be much smoother if those forced titles were explained with at least one sentence for those users who might not catch the editorial team's subtle sense of humor.

Thanks for listening,

Herbie.
