What ruggedjackal46 posted isn't even close to being "hardcore." Dimmu Borgir is basically the Scandinavian version of Cradle of Filth. Just a bunch of posers playing dress-up.

Out of all the heavy hitters, I only respect Immortal. They aren't wearing face paint to look pretty, and they don't overdo the brutal stuff just for the sake of it. It’s more like they're leaning into the vibe without trying too hard.

Robert Torres said:I’ve never seen a more ridiculous ban than the one Justin James10 just took 🤦. The guy didn't even do anything; some rookie ref just cracked under pressure from those angry Real Madrid fans and sent an innocent man straight to the gulag.

You hit the nail on the head, ruggedjackal46.

God, how many times have people been insulting each other and trolling on the La Liga thread? Me, you, everyone—and don't even get me started on "Chmarlos"—all without a single warning. And now, over one little ban, everyone’s whining and writing these dramatic apology posts 🤣

Whatever. Stop being such crybabies, that's all. Some users annoy the hell out of me too, and I've definitely called a few people names, but I wouldn't fight to keep them posting, nor would I point fingers at anyone just because they're ruining the "quality" of the board (what quality, anyway?)
It's simple: just don't talk to the people who bore you and peace out. It's the damn internet; you don't have to look at or listen to anyone if you don't want to.

But wait, there's more! First, they botched the initial post and the point tally, then they tried to fix it (and even botched the apology because they cited the wrong post entirely 🤣), then they realized they were short on points and added more, and then—get this—a penalty for "trolling" just because I posted a laughing GIF? It was a complete circus from start to finish: messy officiating, questionable compensation, and total chaos. 🤣🤣 🤣

Anyway, take it easy guys. Let's not lose our minds over a damn forum. Life is too good to spend it getting worked up over this! 🙂

everyone knows the names and faces behind these acts now... they're way too sanitized for the mainstream crowd ☕

sorry, I don't do "nobodies" just because they're nobodies☕

it's about how things evolve over time. that's on the people, not some calculated move during production. depends on how you look at it, but calling this "mass-market catering" doesn't fly with me. a guy like Burzum isn't trying to play to the crowd, and neither are these bands. but hey, even obscure metal had to grab its slice of the pie as everything went mainstream. every art genre eventually gets its own pop category. plus, underground extreme metal isn't automatically high quality just because it wasn't made for the radio. these bands aren't underground, sure, but they aren't selling out either.

whatever. by that logic, John Maus is mainstream, and those guys playing bass in hipster indie bands will look down their noses at you if you tell them you actually dig him.☕

I don’t recall any previous moderation team ever allowing such a sheer volume of brainless posts on the forums without stepping in, especially over such an extended period. If you look at the Lakers threads, nearly a quarter or even a third of the content is just this. It’s not even about the big games or the rivalry matchups; it’s just this mindless, one-sided drivel that lacks any spark, any wit, or even the basic decency to be decent trolls, let alone actually funny.

Feel free to disagree and claim it was always like this, but we all know it wasn't. Though, I suppose handing out a few warnings to restlesssurfer97 might finally sort this mess out. 🙏

We simply don't have the time for this. 🙏

It honestly feels as if someone is holding a gun to your heads, forcing you to moderate a damn basketball forum that consists of maybe three active threads where anyone is actually saying anything worth reading. 🙏

I can't tell if I'm just finally losing my patience, or if this kind of aggressive Facebook commentary is simply how the younger generation chooses to interact these days.

In any case, when you realize that the local pub you frequent has become overrun by idiots—or more specifically, groups of people you personally deem to be idiots—isn't the most sensible move to just find a different bar?

I’ve made this exact same point just a few days ago, and I’ve been dropping similar hints on Reddit quite a while before that.

If you're implying that I'm particularly crushed about being cut from the roster, don't worry—it isn't quite like that.

Look, I’m over 30 now, so maybe it's me... but reading restlesssurfer97 feels like watching some 15-year-old post on Facebook. I get it, though; the guy grew up on this forum and social media, so I guess this specific brand of rhetoric just became his default setting. All those emojis, the dumb jokes, and that "your mom" stuff he throws at anyone who disagrees with him...

You're a decent forum user, and ruggedjackal46 is alright too, but maybe I’ve just aged out of it. His brand of constant sarcasm is exactly the kind of crowd I walked away from, even if you're still enjoying it. For instance, look at the current thread—Real Madrid just lost, and he’s busy mocking three different threads at once. There isn't a single actual post about the game itself or the other match playing simultaneously. It's just nonstop laughing and mockery. On sites like ESPN or Bleacher Report, it’ll stay like this until Barcelona loses, and then the whole other side will jump in. If you aren't a die-hard fan of one of those two teams, there's basically no room left on this subforum to actually read anything worthwhile.

Take user 60ms over in the Bundesliga section; now that's someone worth reading. Generally speaking, the discussions in the Bundesliga section have been great lately. Even on the Premier League board, you can find plenty of useful stuff, except when everyone starts obsessing over which manager is a total flop. It's exhausting...

Man, what has this whole mess actually turned into?

https://www.nytimes.com/us/news/investigation-into-corporate-fraud...

She even opened up about her experience back in the nineties when she was reporting on corporate fraud and corrupt officials. Apparently, after she published those files, someone sent a box to the newsroom disguised as a gift, but there was a dead cat inside. She faced threats personally too, with people showing up at her house. Even though she reported everything to the FBI, it felt like every time she did, there was just this subtle pressure to drop the subject...

Probably the one you weren't looking for.😁

Yeah, I mean seriousness in terms of being twisted. Like, take Burzum—guy killed his bandmate before going solo and torched some churches. Spent a ton of time behind bars. Or the frontman from Dissection, who got busted for a murder involving a satanic cult partner before ending things with a ritual suicide. Then there’s the guy from Deicide (disturbing stuff, 🙏 really), rocking an upside-down cross branded on his forehead. 🤣

Just to be clear, I’m not out here cheering for any of that shit, but calling these guys posers is a stretch. They aren't like Cradle of Filth or Dimmu Borgir.

Clarification number two: I'm definitely not saying every black or death metal fan is a killer or some kind of lunatic like the examples I gave.

And clarification number three: Don't try to psychoanalyze me based on what I listen to. Extreme metal isn't my main thing, but I can't deny the sheer musical skill some of these guys have. At the end of the day, a good horror movie is one that actually scares you, and a good comedy is one that actually makes you laugh.

Plus, there are plenty of killer bands where the musicians aren't total psychos. It's just that raw, primal energy and that dark, ominous vibe in the tracks. And no, I'm not just talking about technicality or crazy blast beats.

That doesn't mean this music escapes the "seriousness" question, since people will always look at them and think, "What are these guys in face paint even doing?"

This is what kills me the most. Everything is so heavily curated and dissected just to ensure it fails.

Walter Grant5, could you please explain to everyone what on earth those guys from Mayhem were thinking when they designed their album cover? ☕

I know all about those types and those bands; I didn't just wake up yesterday.

But they are still nothing more than ridiculous nonsense.
It’s essentially the "I’m going to go murder my neighbor and eat his brain" school of thought.
Sure, it’s intense, but it leaves you wondering, "What on earth is wrong with these people?"
At its core, it’s just a cocktail of narcissism, exhibitionism, and genuine mental instability.
If I were to be fascinated by that sort of thing, I might as well admire Jack the Ripper or someone similar; they would be even less likely to be considered posers.

Look, I’m not saying this is some deep moral crisis. I’m talking strictly about the music as an end product. When certain guys churn out tracks like they do, they aren't just mimicking what they heard somewhere else. And obviously, not everyone worships these people just because they've committed crimes. Case in point: when I first saw that Burzum video, I didn't know any of the backstory. But man, the track gave me chills just because it was damn good. Within the context of what makes music "good," anyway.

Those were just extreme cases. Take Immortal, for instance—they actually get the joke. They aren't some violent morons. Plenty of other famous guys are the same way.

That murder? Pure heat of passion. Nothing ritualistic about it. Just some psycho snapping.

What's your take on Roman Polanski movies or that whole Phil Spector wall of sound thing?

So, why is someone like David Cronenberg considered a "serious" artist while some black metal kid is automatically labeled a joke? Both sides aren't out there actually hurting anyone or trying to change real-world laws—they’re just pushing their ideas through art. It's all just different channels.
