Is there even any point in weighing in on whether people actually dig AC/DC or not? 😂

Oh, absolutely. Honestly, I can tell you just don't get what we're talking about here. ☕

Look, it’s not as if you’re going to land the number four spot on the Republican primary ballot for Cleveland just by playing along.
And it isn't like they'll kick you off the ticket just because you disagree.

You’re basically trying to weigh the physical quality of some material against actual music or fine art, which is honestly a losing battle if you ask me.
Even if all these trends are being shoved down our throats by some corporate machine.

ruggedjackal46 said:I have to agree. I think metalheads are great people; it’s just the music itself that isn't really my thing.

Exactly. I'd put my signature on that. As far as metal goes, maybe just the classics like Sabbath or Maiden, but honestly, the fans who dive into all those subgenres are way more interesting and fun to hang out with than those pretentious indie hipsters.

Matthew Young35 said:I was running in those circles back in the early nineties, and it’s been fascinating to watch how almost everyone transitioned into classic rock once the metal scene started to lose its momentum.
It isn't as if they all suddenly swapped their leather jackets for Beatles memorabilia or started obsessing over The Kinks. Instead, most of them leaned heavily into the staples—Queen, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Iggy Pop, Dylan, Springsteen, and that whole legendary era.

That’s exactly what I noticed too. In high school, they couldn't even name five Rolling Stones or AC/DC tracks, and then later on, they become die-hard fans. 😁

Nancy Sanchez31 said:Well, nobody actually said that, I guess. 😁 My point was just that AC/DC has pretty shallow lyrics—which I love, by the way—and I don't really see much difference when it comes to Queen. Just my two cents, I suppose.

I agree there. I think AC/DC just radiates this specific energy; the songs are simple and repetitive, but they rarely get boring. Plus, Brian, Angus, the late Malcolm, and Bon are just genuinely likable guys. Watching them live at a stadium... hardly anyone can recreate that kind of atmosphere. 🙏

Queen has about 15 hits that I absolutely love. I tried listening to their entire discography once, but it just didn't work for me.

Look, when something just feels good—whether it's touching your skin, looking at it, hearing it, or even tasting it... it just feels good. Period. ☕

Forget all this Queen nonsense; just start listening to shoegaze and whatever other similar garbage exists—it'll change your life for the better.

I noticed someone from this PDF group is using this album cover as their avatar, so they can probably vouch for how wonderful this genre is:

Your mandatory reading list starts with Psychocandy by the Jesus and Mary Chain (don't screw it up by listening to Darklands—that album is pretty mediocre), then move on to Slowdive, Ride, and Cocteau Twins, and just let the music take you wherever it wants to go.

but handing out these kinds of pats on the back just risks losing any shred of respect from someone like Patrick Martin😉

👍

It's a solid selection.

But for me, the absolute best album to ever come out of the UK remains:

Honestly, it's pretty much the only thing worth hearing from that band. 😬
Nothing hits quite like hearing "This is the One" on Old Time Radio. 🙏

I can't stand metal because it just reminds me of those guys roaming the neighborhood on Sunday mornings with their massive loudspeakers blaring:
"We're buying scrap metal, old refrigerators, and all kinds of metal products!" Ever since then, my hair stands on end whenever I hear anything about metal, and I don't have much to spare...

And what about Black Metal? Does it actually hold any market value compared to something like Heavy Metal? Robert Torres?

Man, that mix of AC/DC and those absolute fanatics in Buenos Aires is just top-tier. 🙏 🙏

Jack Diaz4, what kind of music vibe are we talking about here—is it stuff like The Stone Roses and all that? 😀
I'm not really into that scene, I guess. Just please don't try to recommend Oasis to me; that’s not my thing, just some dirty little indie groupers ☕

Look, I’ll give Oasis credit where it’s due—they’ve got a few solid hits in the bag. But honestly? The rest of it is just okay.

Gentlemen, all you really need is a guitar, maybe a couple of harmonicas, some prog and folk rock, and a pinch of that classic Americana bard soul while you gaze wistfully through a fogged-up window at rain-soaked Midwestern cornfields. That’s the whole kit and caboodle. Why bother with this devilish nonsense—these drunken vultures who dress themselves up like cheap starlets just to poison your spirit by playing on your misplaced sense of machismo? Honestly, wouldn't it be better to just go have a long talk with your local priest?

If there is one thing I absolutely cannot stand, it’s Britpop.

Maybe there’s some Britpop prelude coming. You should check out the entire Manchester scene besides Oasis—though, to be fair, I actually like them despite being total haters. They're just fun, lovable hillbillies, if you ask me. There are plenty of other great bands out there. ☕

The whole movement was called Madchester—think bands like the Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets, the Charlatans, and Northside. If you ask me, the whole thing really kicked off with New Order and that specific vibe. You should check out this movie on the subject; it’s actually pretty fun.

I just revisited *American Beauty*. Honestly? It’s a masterpiece, even if I’m a bit too cynical to enjoy it the way most people do. The direction is surgical, and the pacing is tight. It manages to capture that suffocating, suburban American malaise perfectly—that feeling that everything looks pristine on the surface while everything underneath is rotting away. It’s a heavy watch, and yeah, maybe I’m being a bit dramatic when I say it’s better than almost anything else coming out of Hollywood this decade, but I stand by it. It’s visceral, uncomfortable, and absolutely brilliant. If you haven't seen it lately, go back and watch it. Just don't expect to feel "good" when the credits roll.

The 90s were easily the last truly great era for music. Everything felt alive back then. You had Britpop, Grunge, old-school hip hop—it was all there. Real substance.

So, what, you think Blur isn't your style?

Something like this:

The Pulp situation:

It’s been an incredible stretch of time, I'll give you that—but tastes vary, obviously. 👍
