Nathan Turner3, that's a solid avatar you've got there. Any chance you could hunt down something similar for me and just slide it into my DMs? I'd really appreciate it.🙂

So, here's analoggull4 in the actual correct dimensions, since yours is tiny at like 100x100

Don't go overboard with the animated avatars, please.

We're moving to larger avatars, not animated ones. A little bit here and there is fine, but if everyone starts using animations now, we'll regret the change once we have to deal with the increased bandwidth load. 😉

With these new dimensions, animated avatars look way too aggressive. People need to get used to the new size first. Some people aren't even happy with the basic change yet.

Let the haters talk... 😁

If someone has an issue with it, that's on them. Honestly, those animated avatars are tiny—well under the 29.3 kb limit anyway. If anyone actually wants one, let 'em have it. 😬

New avatar dimensions are 75x75 pixels, with a max file size of 30,000 bytes—roughly 29.3 kB. We’ve moved up from the old 50x50 and 10,000 byte limit.

Use this space to swap tips on profile design and debate what actually looks good. I recommend using a full 75x75 square to keep everything uniform, similar to how social media sites handle it, just for a cleaner look overall.

Basic workflow: once you find an image you want to use, first crop it into a square, then resize it down to 75x75. After that, maybe tweak the sharpness or contrast to make it pop.

Most Reddit users (over 95%) are running macOS and have access to tools that can handle this. But let's be honest, there are much better apps than the basic stuff.

If you want it even easier, just use web apps designed specifically for these tasks. One decent option is http://www.webresizer.com/.

Jump in and share advice or help each other out with new designs. It would be useful to cover topics like making transparent avatars, creating animations, finding helpful graphic web apps, or building galleries...

Looking at the moderator sub-forum where we tested these new sizes, the result is great. 🙂 The avatars stand out more and offer way more creative freedom.

It is worth noting that an immense amount of imagery available online isn't actually free to use, much like how one wouldn't just walk into a dealership and drive off with a Ford without paying; you really have to watch yourself to avoid infringing on someone else's intellectual property. Stealing what belongs to others is fundamentally wrong, so please ensure whatever you decide to utilize is strictly royalty-free.

yeah, true 🤣 I mean, imagine how pissed off some artist would be if they stumbled across one of their pieces shrunk down to a tiny 75x75 pixel mess on some random American forum 😁

Go ahead and laugh. I thought the same thing, and now I’m stuck paying a fine for using an image from the internet without permission.😁

So, I figured I’d just post my photo here, you know? Just in case someone wants to use it without asking, then maybe they'll actually have to pay me for the unauthorized usage ☕

Some guy with a shaved head and a beard calls me up out of the blue, right? And he goes... "Hey man, you're gonna owe me some cash..."🤷
I honestly didn't have a clue what he was even talking about...🤣

You can easily design some great avatars here using your own photos 😁

My avatar looks pixelated ever since I updated it. Does anyone have any advice?😁

Look, you’re better off just hunting down the original high-res version and scaling that down. There's honestly no point in trying to upscale this one—it's just a lost cause... 😉

Are you actually serious right now? If so, should I just go with an avatar or find a bigger image?

It is quite common for a US law firm to send you a notice demanding a specific settlement amount just to get them to take down an image 😍

Man... I can only imagine how much that sucked...
Was it even your own shot, or did you grab it from someone else? Like, was it some random stock photo or something you found on Flickr? And where'd you even post it? 😁

Rachel Young30, it won't work unless the image is protected 😍

Surely they wouldn't allow it for avatars 🙂
