The Raven trailer (2012)

Did anyone happen to catch the Great Seal of the United States from the 19th century appearing at the forty-minute mark, specifically when Fields checks his watch during the ball? 🙂

I generally have a soft spot for this genre, though I found this particular outing rather underwhelming. For me, the highlight was the dialogue between Emily and Ivanna during that period of tension between them. That final scene on the bench was visually stunning, though I think the impact would have been much stronger if he had discovered her body there...

As for Poe, his performance felt erratic—swinging wildly from a hysterical clown to an action hero, making him a total disaster.

The whole "getting to know the psychopath" trope is just tedious. It’s something we've seen a hundred times before, usually accompanied by that mandatory monologue designed to provide enough Hollywood exposition to ensure the audience understands everything perfectly before they finish their popcorn on the way out of the theater.

It really could have used a greater sense of mystery...

Mel, I have to say, I was pretty let down. Honestly? Part of it was just me having way too high of expectations going in. Since I didn't bother reading the synopsis beforehand—my mistake, clearly—I went in expecting a deep dive into his life story, you know? A real exploration of his actual legacy and works. But then... boom. Just a movie. It wasn't a total disaster, per se, but I certainly wouldn't be putting it on my list of all-time greats.
So, yeah. A completely middle-of-the-road flick. Nothing to write home about. (just my two cents)

Caught this one a little while back and man, I was floored. It hit every single one of my buttons perfectly. Honestly? Not a single complaint... just pure genius.
