Lyrica usage and experiences

Hey there

So, here’s the deal
We found out my wife was pregnant four days ago, and then the very next day she just completely collapsed—passed out cold because of this intense abdominal pain. The ER rushed her in... they were all worried it might be an ectopic pregnancy...
Turns out, it wasn't ectopic at all, just an ovarian cyst. But here's the kicker... my wife conceived while she was actually on Lyrica, which her specialist had prescribed for those chronic migraines of hers. AND HE EXPLICITLY TOLD HER NOT TO GET PREGNANT WHILE ON THIS MEDICATION.
The ultrasound today showed the embryo is right where it should be in the uterus and everything looks okay so far (growth rate and all that...), but the doctors can't give me a straight answer on whether there will be any neurological fallout for the baby later on.
The head nurse at the clinic actually told me today, "Well, you guys are young, you'll have more kids eventually"
Basically, she was implying she wouldn't take the risk. My wife is currently about 6 weeks along.
Does anyone here know anything about the potential consequences of being on Lyrica during pregnancy??

Give them a call, explain the whole mess, and ask specifically about the consequences. They likely have all the clinical studies covered, so they should be able to send you a link or some data.
I tried Googling it, but I couldn't find anything concrete.
Honestly, a good pharmacist might also be able to give you more insight.

It’s honestly so weird to me that the doctors at the hospital haven't even heard of this stuff.
On Tuesday, I’m making the trip from my place out to Washington, D.C. to see the specialist who originally prescribed her treatment.
I really want to get as many expert opinions as possible. I'm not looking to play games with my health, you know?

Has anyone experienced any significant side effects from this medication? If so, which ones? I’m taking it for neuropathic pain and I've been noticing several changes and side effects lately, so I was hoping to consult with someone else who is also on it.🙏

Hey, fill me in on what ended up happening with your wife and the pregnancy... I'm starting on Lyrica today and just scrolling through everything I can find online to get ahead of it, especially since my neurologist didn't bother mentioning anything about the risks of getting pregnant, so now I'm stuck wondering how things turned out for you because my cycles are such a mess that I can't even be sure if I'm pregnant or not until my period actually shows up...

Listen,

I’m quite familiar with Lyrica; I used it years ago for trigeminal neuralgia, and then again earlier this year for polyneuropathy.

Back at the beginning of June, I found myself pregnant while on a triple therapy regimen involving some pretty heavy-hitting medications—corticosteroids, an antimalarial, and Tegretol. Now, Tegretol falls into that same neurological category as Lyrica; to put it simply, Lyrica is the newer player on the block, whereas Tegretol is one of those older, established drugs, but they both sit in that same bucket of anticonvulsants used for neuropathic pain and such.

I was actually taking Lyrica before I switched over to Tegretol, and frankly, I couldn't stomach the Lyrica at all. The side effects were absolutely brutal, and I just couldn't deal with them!

I kept taking all of these medications until I was about five or six weeks pregnant—not that I even knew I was pregnant at the time—when, much like what happened with your wife, I ended up being rushed to the ER because of severe abdominal pains.

Fast forward to now: I’m currently in my sixth month of pregnancy. I’ve been getting regular checkups and have completed every single test the doctors ordered (which was quite a lot, given my underlying condition, the stomach issues, and the cocktail of meds I was on). An amniocentesis confirmed that I’m carrying a perfectly healthy little girl 🙂, and if it helps ease your mind, I’m 38 years old and this is my first pregnancy! 🙂

To be honest, I was so terrified when I realized I was pregnant that I stopped taking my medications cold turkey overnight. In doing so, I actually put myself at even greater risk, because you aren't supposed to just quit drugs like Tegretol, Lyrica, or corticosteroids abruptly; they really should be tapered off gradually. Fortunately, there weren't any complications, and my body seemed to handle the sudden stop surprisingly well. Based on what my doctors told me, I could have continued tapering them off without any issues, which suggests they might not be as devastating to a pregnancy as one might fear.

In my humble opinion, there shouldn't be any lasting consequences for the baby. I had my own moments of intense anxiety about it, but from the very start, the doctors insisted there shouldn't be any problems. I truly hope that sharing my experience offers you even a small amount of comfort.

OB-GYNs aren't exactly specialists when it comes to these specific medications, but the second I found out I was pregnant, I called my neurologist immediately. I told her I had stopped taking the meds because of the pregnancy, and she gave me the green light to move forward. She actually told me that being pregnant might be a blessing for managing my condition, and she warned me not to let it even cross my mind to stop the treatment mid-stream!!! 😉, and assured me that the medication wouldn't cause any harm to the baby.

amberhawk, thanks a million, you really helped calm my nerves because honestly, the thought of taking this makes me terrified... and since the only foolproof way to avoid getting pregnant is to stop having sex altogether—which would basically give my husband a nervous breakdown—I'm stuck... thanks again though! Wishing you a smooth, happy pregnancy, enjoy every second, there's nothing quite like that first one...

Thanks for the kind wishes. I completely get where you're coming from; my husband and I were trying to conceive while I was still on my medication, and my cycles are incredibly irregular—roughly every 45 days! 🙂, I was religiously using pregnancy tests every single month just to make sure I wasn't pregnant, purely to minimize any potential harm to a baby. But that one time when I actually did conceive? I didn't even bother with a test. Honestly, it was only because I felt so incredibly sick that I finally realized what was happening. 🙂

I was on it for several years trying to deal with intercostal neuralgia, but honestly? It was a total wash, and I started dealing with some nasty stomach issues because of it. I haven't touched the stuff in nine months now.
Since I switched over to Mumio, I feel like I’ve completely turned a corner and healed up. I actually still take Mumio on a regular basis to keep my immune system strong and
help prevent any other health problems from creeping up on me.

Seriously though, you really need to go talk to your doctor about all this... just make sure you get a professional opinion before you try anything...

Hello everyone. I recently started taking Lyrica to help manage my anxiety. It feels a bit strange that there seems to be so little information out there regarding personal experiences with this medication. So, we're talking about the stuff known as Lyrica.

Plus, you’re digging up a three-year-old post from 2012 by some guy who basically vanished from the forums back then, acting like Mumio was some kind of magic cure-all for every little ache and pain you could imagine.
There’s actually zero data out there on how much his sales spiked once he started moving that stuff.

If you’re looking to get into a deep dive about Mumio, there’s actually a perfect thread for that—one that gets a ton of traffic and stays pretty active. Alternative treatments for PPDF You could honestly spend an eternity rambling on about how these "miracle" supplements supposedly work, and you’d still barely scratch the surface.

I’m looking for some honest feedback regarding Lyrica. My mom was prescribed it by her physical therapist because she’s dealing with this intense numbness in one of her legs—she’s doing physical therapy, but she can’t feel any sensation from electrical stimulation treatments at all. On top of that, her spine is a mess. She’s 70 years old.
The instructions mention being extra cautious with patients who have heart issues, and my mom actually has two femoral artery issues. Plus, her stomach has been a total nightmare lately because they found some bacteria similar to Helicobacter, even if it wasn't specifically Helicobacter. Honestly, she just finished a brutal round of antibiotics and it was a rough ride.
After reading through the warnings and the list of side effects, she’s feeling pretty hesitant about taking the Lyrica at all.
